Sky Witness has picked up CBS drama ‘The Equalizer‘, which sees Academy Award nominee Queen Latifah star in a reboot of the classic 1980s crime drama of the same name.
Latifah stars as Robyn McCall, an enigmatic former CIA operative who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn. McCall comes across to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter. But to a trusted few, she is “The Equalizer” – an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden, who’s also dogged in her pursuit of personal redemption.
Alongside Latifah, the series star Chris Noth as William Bishop, a quirky ex–CIA director and old friend of Robyn’s who now runs his own private security company; Tory Kittles as Marcus Dante, an intelligent and shrewd NYPD detective on Robyn’s trail, but she helps him but finds common ground in getting justice; Liza Lapira as Melody “Mel” Bayani, a former Air Force sniper turned owner of a bar which acts as a secret base of operations for Robyn; Adam Goldberg as Harry Keshegian, Melody’s husband and a master hacker; Lorraine Toussaint as Viola “Aunt Vi” Marsette, Robyn’s very wise paternal aunt; And Laya DeLeon Hayes as Delilah, Robyn’s 15-year-old daughter.
Andrew Marlowe, Terri Miller, Dana Owens (Queen Latifah), John Davis, John Fox, Debra Martin Chase, Richard Lindheim (co-creator of the original ‘Equalizer’ TV series that ran on CBS for four seasons), Shakim Compere and Liz Friedlander (pilot director) are executive producers for Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios, i/a/w CBS Television Studios.
‘The Equalizer‘ Season 1 is currently set to premiere in August 2021 on Sky Witness in the UK.
