‘Charmed’: History Repeats Itself As CW Drama Loses A Sister After 3 Seasons
The Power Of Three is about to become the Power Of Two as history repeats itself and the rebooted drama ‘Charmed‘ loses one of its leading ladies as the third season comes to a close. And no, we don’t have a UK date for Season 3 yet before anyone asks…
Based on the original series, ‘Charmed’ stars Melonie Diaz, Madeleine Mantock and Sarah Jeffery as Mel, Maggie, and Macy, three sisters who discover they are actually young witches with supernatural powers. With the help of their whitelighter Harry (Rupert Evans), the trio set about battling the forces of darkness.
The sister who has decided to break up the group is Madeleine Mantock, who plays the eldest sister Macy. “I’m incredibly grateful to The CW and CBS Studios for my time on the show and for being a brilliant support in my difficult decision to leave,” the actress commented in a statement. “Huge thanks to our fans who can look forward to, what I know will be, a spectacular fourth season.”
Weirdly, this rather mirrors what happened in the original series, which saw Shannen Doherty, who plays the eldest sister Prue in the original trio, leave the show after three seasons. That change resulted in Rose McGowan joining the series as Paige, a long lost fourth sister. It remains to be seen how the reboot series handles the departure this time around. One difference with the reboot from the original was that Macy was already a long-lost sister when the other two found her in the opening episode. Will they go down the route of having another long-lost sister show up? Or will they try something else?
“We can’t thank Madeleine enough for her incredible and inspiring work on Charmed,” commented showrunners Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro. “We will miss her as much as the fans will, but we also respect her decision to move on. This is a difficult time in the world, and everyone has to follow their heart. We wish her well, and the door is always open for a return visit from Macy… one way or another!”
In Season Three the Charmed Ones along with their whitelighter Harry continue their battle with The Faction – a cabal of humans trying to steal magic for themselves, led by billionaire Julian Shea (guest star Eric Balfour). Following an epic standoff, we join the trio as they are forced to try and save the magical world from extinction and navigate a mysterious magical allergy. As the sisters are challenged in new ways romantically, personally and professionally, they will face down monsters in both the magical and human world – the likes of which they have never seen.
‘Charmed‘ Season 3 is currently airing on The CW in the USA, with the finale due this week. We’re still awaiting the E4 schedulers to land the dart in the correct portion of their scheduling dartboard to find out if and when the series will air in the UK… If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
