‘Mr. Mayor’: Sky Picks Up Ted Danson/Holly Hunter Comedy

by Dave Elliott

Sky Comedy has picked up the Ted Danson/Holly Hunter comedy Mr. Mayor, from the team behind ’30 Rock’ and ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’, set to premiere this September in the UK.

The series follows a retired businessman (Danson) who runs for mayor of Los Angeles to prove he’s “still got it.” Once he wins, he has to figure out what he stands for, gain the respect of his biggest critic (Hunter) and connect with his teenage daughter, all while trying to get anything right for America’s second weirdest city.

Alongside Ted Danson (‘The Good Place’, ‘Cheers’) and Holly Hunter (‘The Incredibles’, ‘The Big Sick’, ‘The Piano’), the series stars Vella Lovell (‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’, ‘The Big Sick’), Mike Cabellon (‘Orange Is the New Black’), Kyla Kenedy (‘Speechless’, ‘The Walking Dead’) and Bobby Moynihan (‘SNL’, ‘Star Wars Resistance’, ‘DuckTales’).

When the comedy aired in the USA earlier this year, it gave NBC their best comedy premiere in the 18-49 demo bracket since 2018. This led to the US network handing the series a two-season renewal back in March.

‘Mr. Mayor’ is created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, the people who brought you ’30 Rock’ and ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’. The comedy is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, Little Stranger, Bevel Gears and 3 Arts Entertainment. Robert Carlock, Tina Fey, Jeff Richmond and David Miner executive produce. Eric Gurian serves as a co-executive producer.

Mr. Mayor‘ Season 1 is set to premiere in September 2021 (exact day/time TBC). If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
