Tim Burton’s Live-Action ‘Wednesday’ Addams Series Adds Catherine Zeta-Jones & Luis Guzmán

Tim Burton’s upcoming Live-Action Addams Family series Wednesday has located her parents, as it is revealed Catherine Zeta-Jones will take the role of Morticia, with Luis Guzmán playing Gomez. As previously announced, Jenna Ortega (‘Jane the Virgin’, ‘You’) takes the title role.

The eight-episode series is described as a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago – all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body.

Welsh actress Zeta-Jones has most recently appeared in the second season of tv series ‘Prodigal Son’, opposite fellow Welsh actor Michael Sheen. Taking on the role of Morticia Addams, she follows in the footsteps of Anjelica Houston (‘The Addams Family’ films – 1991/1993), Charlize Theron (‘The Addams Family’ – 2019), Daryl Hannah (‘Addams Family Reunion’) and Carolyn Jones (1964 series).

Luis Guzmán’s long career includes movies such as ‘Boogie Nights’, ‘Magnolia’, and ‘The Taking of Pelham 123’, along with tv series such as ‘Code Black’, ‘Narcos’, ‘Oz’, and ‘Perpetual Grace, LTD’. Most recently he has appeared in ‘Godfather of Harlem’ opposite Forest Whitaker. He follows in the footsteps of John Astin (60s series), the brilliant Raul Julia (90s Addams Family films), the legendary Tim Curry (‘Addams Family Reunion’), and Oscar Isaac (‘The Addams Family’ 2019).

The series comes from Al Gough and Miles Millar, the duo behind ‘Smallville’, ‘Into the Badlands’, and ‘The Shannara Chronicles’. The acclaimed director of all things creepy, Tim Burton, is set to make his tv directorial debut on the series and will serve as showrunner alongside Gough and Millar. The team also includes Andrew Mittman for 1.21 (‘The Addams Family’, ‘Alphas’), Kevin Miserocchi (Tee and Charles Addams Foundation), Kayla Alpert (‘Code Black’, ‘Up All Night’), Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania (‘RESPECT’, ‘Addams Family 2’), and Gail Berman (‘The Addams Family’, ‘Alphas’).

Wednesday‘ does not yet have an air date, but will premiere on Netflix UK and worldwide. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
