‘Narcos: Mexico’ 3rd & Final Season Gets November Premiere Date On Netflix

The 3rd and final season of Narcos: Mexico has been handed a November premiere date on Netflix the streaming service has announced.

‘Narcos: Mexico’ followed from the huge success of the original ‘Narcos’ series, moving the drama from Columbia to explore the origins of the modern drug war in Mexico. Season 1 began at a time when Mexican trafficking world was a loose and disorganized confederation of independent growers and dealers and followed the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s. Diego Luna starred as Félix Gallardo, boss of the Guadalajara Cartel, whilst Michael Peña took the role of DEA agent Kiki Camarena, the man trying to stop him.

Season 2 continued the story, with Scoot McNairy (‘Halt and Catch Fire’, ‘Godless’) taking the lead on the DEA side as Agent Walt Breslin, who was now hot on the tail of Gallardo, now the Godfather of the Guadalajara cartel but was struggling to maintain control of his grow his empire.

The 3rd season moves things into the 90s when the globalisation of the drug business ignites. As newly independent cartels struggle to survive political upheaval and escalating violence, a new generation of Mexican kingpins emerge. But in this war, truth is the first casualty — and every arrest, murder and take-done only pushes real victory further away.

Alongside McNairy, the series sees the return of José María Yázpik (Amado Carillo Fuentes), Alfonso Dosal (Benjamín Arellano Félix), Mayra Hermosillo (Enedina Arellano Felix), Matt Letscher (DEA agent James Kuykendall), Manuel Masalva (Ramón Arellano Félix), Alejandro Edda (Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán) and Gorka Lasaosa (Héctor Palma). They are joined by Luis Gerardo Méndez as Juarez cop Victor Tapia, Alberto Guerra as drug trafficker Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, Rubino as journalist Andrea Nuñez and Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio “Bad Bunny,” who guest stars as Arturo “Kitty” Paez, a member of Ramon Arellano Felix’s gang called the “Narco Juniors.”

Season 3 comes with a couple of changes both in front of and behind the cameras. Diego Luna is not returning as Félix Gallardo due to the events of Season 2… and also because he is off in a galaxy far, far, away right now. Behind the cameras, longtime ‘Narcos’ showrunner Eric Newman handed over the reins to co-creator and EP Carlo Bernard, although stays on board as exec producer. Also, former star Wagner Moura, who brilliantly portrayed Pablo Escobar on the original show will be returning, but behind the cameras as a director, alongside Andrés Baiz, Alejandra Márquez Abella, Luis Ortega and Amat Escalante.

Narcos: Mexico‘ Season 3 premieres Friday, 5th November 2021 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
