Get First Look At Trevor McDonald As ‘GamesMaster’ In E4/YouTube Reboot

by Dave Elliott

E4 has released a “first look” clip of their upcoming reboot of classic tv gaming show GamesMaster, featuring Trevor McDonald taking over the title role as the disembodied floating head.

After 23 years, the iconic series is set to make a return this November, in partnership with Oculus Quest 2 from Facebook, on E4’s YouTube channel first, followed by a linear broadcast on E4. The series will see celebrities, gaming stars and super fans all take part in challenges, races and epic fights. Through virtual battles across a range of games, the competitors will try everything in their power to claim a legendary Golden Joystick Trophy. But whilst they play, they’ll be watched over by the all-knowing GamesMaster, with Sir Trevor McDonald taking over role from the dearly departed Sir Patrick Moore.

The all-new presenting line-up for the series will be led by Robert Florence, who will also serve as creative consultant on the show with esports and gaming host, Frankie Ward and newcomer Ty Logan joining as co-hosts.

Florence is a writer, actor and presenter who has written and starred in a range of BBC comedies, including Burnistoun and The Scotts, as well as computer games show, VideoGaiden. He is also one half of the UK’s longest-running online videogame review show, Consolevania.

Co-host, Frankie Ward is an established face in esports, known for desk and stage hosting, as well as interviewing players across numerous game titles. This is Ty Logan’s first broadcast presenting credit, after being named earlier this year as one of E4’s faces of the future. Ty is passionate about gaming, representing the casual gamers out there and ready to thrash anyone at FIFA.

GamesMaster, in partnership with Oculus Quest 2 from Facebook, is an E4 Digital Original Commission, co-produced by Future Studios and Alaska TV. The 3×60’ series will premiere on E4’s YouTube, followed by a linear play on E4. GamesMaster originally ran from 1992 to 1998 and was one of the first dedicated video gaming TV shows in the world.

GamesMaster is co-produced by Future Studios and Alaska TV and will be exec produced by Ian Lamarra and John Farrar. The showrunner is Céin McGillicuddy. It was commissioned for linear by Factual Entertainment Commissioning editor, Tim Hancock and for digital by Digital Commissioning Exec Thomas Pullen and Head of Digital Commissioning, Sacha Khari.

GamesMaster‘ premieres Sunday, 21st November 2021 on E4’s YouTube channel first, followed by a linear broadcast on E4 on Wednesday, 24th November 2021 at 10pm.
