‘Law & Order’: Hugh Dancy Joins Revival & Anthony Anderson To Return

The Law & Order revival has found one new and one old face to add to the cast when it returns to NBC, with both Anthony Anderson and Hugh Dancy appearing in the 21st Season.

The Emmy-winning series from Dick Wolf is a blended police procedural and courtroom drama with a two-part approach: The first half focused on NYPD homicide detectives investigating a crime – often derived from a real-life headline – and apprehending a suspect. The second half took place in the courtroom, with the district attorney prosecuting the defendant.

Anthony Anderson is set to reprise his role as Detective Kevin Bernard, which he previously played in Seasons 18 to 20. It is believed that he has only signed up for one season of the revival at the moment, but he is the first of the original cast to sign on to the new season. Anderson has, of course, been starring in the hit sitcom ‘Black-ish’ which is due to end with a final 8th Season in January 2022.

Hugh Dancy is joining the drama as a new character who will be an assistant district attorney. Dancy is probably best known for his role as Will Graham on the tv series ‘Hannibal’, along with having appeared in shows such as ‘The Path’, ‘Homeland’, and ‘The Good Fight’. He also starred in movies such as ‘Black Hawk Down’, ‘Ella Enchanted’, and can next be seen in ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’.

These new (or old/new) castings will join ‘Burn Notice’ star Jeffrey Donovan who will play a new NYPD detective character in the revival drama. NBC are currently trying to work out deals to bring back other former cast members, with Sam Waterson (‘The Newsroom’, ‘Grace & Frankie’), who played Jack McCoy for 16 Seasons, being top of the hitlist.

Wolf will executive produce the new season, with longtime collaborator Rick Eid (‘Law & Order’, ‘Law & Order: SVU’, ‘FBI’, ‘Chicago P.D.’) taking the reins as writer and showrunner. Wolf Entertainment’s Arthur Forney and Peter Jankowski also exec produce with Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, producing the show in association with Wolf Entertainment.

No premiere date has been set for Law & Order Season 21, but it will air on NBC in the USA. We don’t technically know where it’ll land in the UK, however, I’d be very surprised if it airs anywhere other than Sky Witness (who, at this point, might as well be rebranded as Sky Wolf). If you want to keep track of this show you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
