‘Clarice’: UKTV’s Alibi Sets December UK Premiere Date For ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ Spinoff Series

UKTV’s Alibi sets a December UK premiere date for Clarice, the ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ spinoff series, starring Rebecca Breeds in the title role.

‘Clarice’ is a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Breeds) as she returns to the field in 1993, one year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs. Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice’s bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. However, her complex psychological makeup empowers her to begin to find her voice while working in a man’s world, as well as escape the family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life.

The thirteen-part series is a spin-off from Thomas Harris’ 1988 novel The Silence of the Lambs and its 1991 film adaptation. Rebecca Breeds (‘Pretty Little Liars’) stars as Clarice Starling, alongside Michael Cudlitz (‘The Walking Dead’) as Paul Krendler, Lucca De Oliveira (‘Animal Kingdom’) as Thomas Esquivel, Kal Penn (‘Designated Survivor’) as Shaan Tripathi, Nick Sandow (‘Orange is the New Black’) as Murray Clarke, Devyn A. Tyler (‘Watchman’) as Ardelia Mapp, Marnee Carpenter (‘Criminal Minds’) as Catherine Martin.

The opening episode begins a year after the events of The Silence of the Lamb film, as Starling is pulled from the Behavioural Science lab to investigate a series of brutal murders, joining an elite FBI Unit. The Buffalo Bill investigation left Clarice with a host of traumatic memories and has earned her celebrity status at the Bureau. Haunted by her past, Clarice works to profile the killings and prove herself to her fellow agents.

The series originally aired on CBS in the USA back in February 2021. The show has not yet been officially renewed or cancelled for a 2nd Season. ‘Clarice’ was the lowest-rated/watched show on CBS when it aired, however, it did well on the Paramount+ streaming service. This prompted CBS to want to move the drama across to become a Paramount+ exclusive, but MGM, who make the show, took issue with the various financial changes that would bring… So the series is currently stuck in renewal limbo, but the longer this goes on, the less likely it is to return.

‘Clarice’ was acquired for UKTV by Daniel Thomas, global acquisitions manager for UKTV and BBC Studios. The series is produced by MGM Television and CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout. Clarice is executive produced and co-created by Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, with executive producers Heather Kadin and Elizabeth Klaviter.

Clarice‘ Season 1 premieres Monday 27th December 2021 at 9pm on Alibi in the UK.
