‘Outer Banks’: Netflix’s Wonderfully Fun Teen Drama Renewed For Season 3

Netflix has renewed the wonderfully fun teen drama Outer Banks for a 3rd Season the streaming service has announced.

‘Outer Banks’ is a coming of age story that follows a tight-knit group of local teens (the “Pogues”) in the beach vacation destination of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Season 1 saw a hurricane kill the power for the summer season, but that event set off a chain of illicit activities that force the friends to make life-altering decisions. The search for their ringleader’s missing father, forbidden romances, a high-stakes treasure hunt, and the escalating conflict between the Pogues and their rivals turned their summer into one filled with mystery and adventure they’ll never forget.

After their near-death escape, season two found John B & Sarah on the run – and in over their heads – in the Bahamas. New friends also brought new foes as they’re back on the trail of the gold, while the stakes for Kiara, Pope, and JJ rapidly escalated at home. The $400M was still in the game, but the uncovering of a newfound secret reunited the group for a fresh mission.

Returning as series regulars are Chase Stokes (John B), Madelyn Cline (Sarah), Madison Bailey (Kiara), Jonathan Daviss (Pope), Rudy Pankow (JJ), Austin North (Topper), Drew Starkey (Rafe), and Charles Esten (Ward). In addition, Carlacia Grant (Cleo) has been upped to series regular and will also return for Season 3.

The drama has been a hit for Netflix around the world, with Season 2 holding the #1 spot globally in Netflix’s Top 10 TV (English) list for the 4 weeks following its launch. The series is created by Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke, who will all return as showrunners and executive producers for Season 3.

If you’ve not watched the previous seasons, it really is a fun bit of escapist teen drama… Somewhat ‘The Goonies’ meets ‘Ozark’ meets ‘Dawson’s Creek’, which sounds like it shouldn’t work, but it really does! If you want to know more about the show, we have interviewed both Production Designer Daniel Novotny & Cinematographer Brad Smith, along with the series composer Fil Eisler, who give some really interesting insights into what goes into making the drama.

Outer Banks Seasons 1 & 2 can be found right now on Netflix worldwide. If you want to keep track of Season 3, add the show via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
