‘Bel-Air’: Peacock UK Sets February Premiere Date For Drama Based On ‘Fresh Prince’

Peacock UK has announced Bel-Air, the much talked about dramatic take on ‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’, will premiere this February exclusively on Sky and NOW.

Set in modern-day America, Peacock Original ‘Bel-Air’ is a new one-hour drama series that imagines the beloved sitcom ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ through a new, dramatic take on Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. As these two worlds collide, Will reckons with the power of second chances while navigating the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world far different from the only one he’s ever known.

Executive produced by Will Smith and inspired by Morgan Cooper’s viral trailer that reimagined the iconic, culture-defining ‘90s sitcom, ‘Bel-Air’ takes a fresh and raw approach to this world of swagger, style and aspiration, while exploring Will’s complex journey through a current lens.

Newcomer Jabari Banks takes over the role of Will, played by Smith in the original series. He is joined by Adrian Holmes (‘V-Wars’, ‘Continuum’) as Phillip Banks (played by James Avery on the original); Cassandra Freeman (‘Atlanta’) as Vivian Banks (originally played by Janet Hubert/Daphne Maxwell Reid); Olly Sholotan (‘Run Hide Fight’) as Carlton Banks (originated by Alfonso Ribeiro); Coco Jones (‘Five Points’, ‘Good Luck Charlie’) as Hilary Banks (originated by Karyn Parsons); Akira Akbar (‘Good Trouble’, ‘Captain Marvel’) as Ashley Banks (originated by Tatyana M. Ali); Jimmy Akingbola (‘Most Dangerous Game’, ‘In the Long Run’) as Geoffrey (originated by Joseph Marcell); Jordan L. Jones (‘Rel’) as Jazz (originated by DJ Jazzy Jeff); And Simone Joy Jones (‘The Chair’) as Lisa (originated by Nia Long).

T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson (‘The Chi’, ‘The 100’) serve as executive producers and co-showrunners on the new series, which is directed, co-exec produced, and co-written by Morgan Cooper. Smith, Terence Carter, James Lassiter, Miguel Melendez, Malcolm Spellman, Quincy Jones, Benny Medina and Andy & Susan Borowitz also exec produce. Westbrook Studios and Universal Television (who own the copyright to the original series) will produce the drama.

For those of you unsure where to find Peacock UK, it is available exclusively to Sky Glass, Sky Q, Sky+, Sky Go and NOW (Entertainment Pass) customers. You’ll find it under the “Catch up TV” section on Sky, or just say “Peacock” into your voice remote.

Bel-Air‘ Season 1 premieres Monday, 14th February 2022, on Peacock UK. The drama airs Sunday, February 13th in the USA, also on Peacock.
