by Dave Elliott

Netflix has released the first trailer for the return of ‘Young Wallander’ for Season 2, which now has a subtitle – Young Wallander: Killer’s Shadow.

Based on the best selling Kurt Wallander novels by Henning Mankell, the English-language drama is a modern reimagining of the legendary detective, Kurt Wallander, who must navigate the increasingly violent environment of present-day Sweden.

Season 2 picks up with Kurt Wallander (Adam Pålsson) is found adrift and uncertain of the future following his exit from the police force. An opportunity to re-join the Major Crimes Unit arises when a new Superintendent, Samuel Osei (Tomiwa Edun), takes on the leadership. Wallander accepts the offer and is tasked with what seems to be a straightforward case: a hit-and-run outside a nightclub.

However, when the victim is found to be connected to an infamous murder case handled by Frida Rask (Leanne Best) eight years ago, Wallander quickly suspects that there is more to this incident than meets the eye. Determined to uncover the truth, he refuses to back off – even when the investigation leads him to the door of those who could end his career in a heartbeat.

The series stars Adam Pålsson in the lead role, with Tomiwa Edun as Superintendent Samuel Osei, Leanne Best as Frida Rask, Yasen Atour as Reza and Ellise Chappell as Mona.

The series is created by Yellow Bird UK, a Banijay Group company, and the producer of the Swedish ‘Wallander’ franchise at TV4 as well as the successful BBC series ‘Wallander’ from 2008, which saw Kenneth Branagh in the title role. Writing duties for Season 2 will fall to Chris Lunt and Michael A. Walker, who previously worked on the Sky Original series ‘Devils’ starring Patrick Dempsey. Jens Jonsson and Mani Maserrat direct the drama.

Young Wallander: Killer’s Shadow‘ premieres Thursday, 17th February 2022 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
