‘Halo’: Paramount+ Releases Full Trailer For Video Game TV Series

by Dave Elliott

Paramount+ has released a full trailer for their upcoming Halo tv drama, based on the popular game franchise. When might we see it in the UK? We’ll get to that in a minute…

The live-action drama takes place in the universe that first came to be in 2001 with the launch of Xbox’s first “Halo” game. Dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant, HALO the series will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.

The series stars Pablo Schreiber (“American Gods”) as the Master Chief, Spartan-117; Natascha McElhone (“Californication”) as Dr. Halsey, the brilliant, conflicted and inscrutable creator of the Spartan super-soldiers; and Jen Taylor (“Halo” game series, RWBY) as Cortana, the most advanced AI in human history, and potentially the key to the survival of the human race.

Additional stars include Bokeem Woodbine (“Fargo”), Shabana Azmi (“Fire”), Natasha Culzac (“The Witcher”), Olive Gray (“Half Moon Investigations”), Yerin Ha (“Reef Break”), Bentley Kalu (“Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Kate Kennedy (“Catastrophe”), Charlotte “Charlie” Murphy (“Peaky Blinders”) and Danny Sapani (“Penny Dreadful”). Also joining the cast as original characters are Ryan McParland (“6Degrees”), Burn Gorman (“The Expanse”) and Fiona O’Shaughnessy (“Nina Forever”).

‘Halo’ is produced by Showtime in partnership with 343 Industries, along with Amblin Television. HALO is executive produced by Steven Kane, alongside Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television in partnership with 343 Industries, director Otto Bathurst and Toby Leslie for One Big Picture, and Kyle Killen and Scott Pennington for Chapter Eleven. Kiki Wolfkill, Frank O’Connor and Bonnie Ross serve as executive producers for 343 Industries. The series is distributed internationally by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group.

The Halo video game franchise reinvented how people think about video games and has grown into a global entertainment phenomenon, having sold more than 82 million copies worldwide and grossing more than $6 billion in lifetime total sales revenue.

So… the big question for UK fans:

When will we get to watch the ‘Halo’ tv series here?

Well, we currently still don’t have a launch date for Paramount+ UK, although we do know it is coming, and the latest I’m being told is that they are aiming for a March 2022 UK launch.

Paramount+ US has two big shows launching in March over there – ‘Star Trek: Picard’ Season 2 and ‘Halo’. However, due to existing deals, ‘Picard’ will still be airing on Prime Video internationally for the second season, leaving ‘Halo’ as their one major new property that month.

I should stress, nothing has been confirmed at the moment, but given ‘Halo’ is premiering at the end of March, and the streaming service is supposed to be launching in March, that would point to this likely being their big “tentpole” series for the international rollout of Paramount+. We will have to wait and see!

UPDATE 15/02/22 – At today’s Investor event, Paramount gave the more vague date of “Summer 2022”, so it seems the original planned March launch has slipped back a bit.

The ‘Halo‘ tv series will launch Thursday, 24th March 2022 on Paramount+ in the U.S. and all international markets where the streaming service will be available in 2022.
