‘Peaky Blinders’: Season 6 Gets February UK Premiere Date On BBC One

by Dave Elliott

The premiere date for Peaky Blinders Season 6 has finally been revealed… and in a rather unique way… as we return to see the Shelby family in the final season.

The date announcement was made on the side of a building in Birmingham as the finishing touch to the striking 12.71m high mural of the series’ epic gang leader Tommy Shelby. The image looms impressively over the Old Crown in Digbeth and was painted over seven days by street artist Akse, the talent behind the famous portrait of Marcus Rashford last year. You can view a timelapse of Akse painting the impressive image at the bottom of this article.

The BAFTA award-winning drama is an international phenomenon. Millions of viewers worldwide are hooked on the story of the notorious Shelby family’s rise to prominence and power, against the backdrop of working-class, post-First World War Birmingham.

Whilst we don’t yet have a plot synopsis for Season 6, you can see in the trailer that it is heading toward the onset of WWII. We also know that there is a bit of a time jump, but Tommy is still an MP, but that the political tension only worsens as time goes on. “In series six, we’ll be looking at 1934 and things are worse, commented creator Steven Knight in an interview with NME. “The drumbeat is getting louder, tensions are worse and Tommy is right in the middle of all that. Again, it will be an exploration of what was going on in the ‘30s and how certain things transpired.”

One new face this season is Stephen Graham, who is set to join the returning cast of Cillian Murphy, Paul Anderson and Finn Cole. Tom Hardy is also set to return as Alfie Solomons. Helen McCrory tragically passed away last year, so it is unclear how they will handle the absence of Aunt Polly.

The sixth series is written by Knight, Anthony Byrne returns as director having directed series five to great acclaim, and Nick Goding will produce. Executive producers are Caryn Mandabach, Steven Knight, Jamie Glazebrook, David Mason, Anthony Byrne and Cillian Murphy. Tommy Bulfin is executive producer for the BBC and Lucy Bedford is executive producer for Tiger Aspect. Peaky Blinders, from Caryn Mandabach Productions, is co-produced with Tiger Aspect Productions and distributed internationally by Banijay Rights.

Peaky Blinders‘ Season 6 premieres Sunday, 27th February 2022 at 9pm on BBC One.
