‘Slow Horses’: Trailer Lands For Apple TV+ Darkly Funny MI5 Drama Adaptation Starring Gary Oldman

by Dave Elliott

Apple TV+ has released a trailer for Slow Horses, an adaptation of Mick Herron’s CWA Gold Dagger Award-winning British espionage books starring Gary Oldman, which premieres this April.

This darkly funny espionage drama follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 due to their career-ending mistakes. Led by their brilliant but irascible leader, the notorious Jackson Lamb, they navigate the espionage world’s smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces.

The series is written by Will Smith (not that one, the writer one!) who is best known for his work with Armando Iannucci as co-writer and co-producer on ‘Veep’, along with writing on ‘The Thick Of It’. Graham Yost (‘The Americans’, ‘Sneaky Pete’, ‘The Pacific’)  executive produces along with Smith. Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Gail Mutrux and Douglas Urbanski also serve as executive producers.

Mick Herron’s “Slough House” novel series has 8 books and novellas to work from so they will not be short of material to adapt. Herron picked up the Crime Writers’ Association 2013 Gold Dagger award for Dead Lions, the second volume in this series.

The series is commissioned for Apple out of the UK by Apple’s Heads of Worldwide Video, Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, and Creative Director for Europe Worldwide Video, Jay Hunt. See-Saw films serve as the production company.

Slow Horses‘ Season 1 premieres Friday, 1st April 2022 on Apple TV+ UK and worldwide.
