‘Umbrella Academy’ Introduces Elliot Page As Viktor Hargreeves In Season 3

Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy has revealed the first shot of Elliot Page as Viktor Hargreeves in the upcoming 3rd Season of the series.

The wonderfully weird family superhero drama is based in a reality where, on the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. Season 1 saw the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father’s passing and having to work as a team once more to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

As many of you will know, Elliot Page, who plays Vanya in the series, came out as transgender and nonbinary in December 2020. As the show had already been renewed for a third season, this did beg the question of how, or if, they were going to address the transition from a story perspective on the show. Now we have something of an answer, as Elliot released the photo above with the caption “Meet Viktor Hargreeves”. Whether that means the character of Vanya has also transitioned, or if there is something else going on remains to be seen. When you’re dealing with a show that is full of changing timelines, superheroes, and multiple versions of characters, anything really is possible!

When we last left the gang, Luther (Tom Hopper), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Diego (David Castañeda), and the ghostly Ben (Justin H. Min), managed to find a way to reunite with Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Vanya (Elliot Page) and return home to the present, after putting a stop to 1963’s doomsday, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren’t exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them…

Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone’s concerns. Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own – and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) – now all they need to do is convince Dad’s new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong. Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?

The new “Sparrow Academy” consists of Justin Cornwell (‘Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey’, ‘I Am the Night’) as Marcus; Justin H. Min (‘The Umbrella Academy’) as Ben… albeit a very different version of Ben!; Britne Oldford (‘The Path’, ‘Hunters’) as Fei; Jake Epstein (‘Designated Survivor’, ‘Suits’) as Alphonso; Genesis Rodriguez (‘The Fugitive’, ‘Big Hero 6’) as Sloane; Cazzie David (’86’ed’, NY Times Best-selling Author Of “No One Asked For This”) as Jayme; And the Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube (Newcomer) as Christopher…

Steve Blackman returns as showrunner and exec producer, with Jeff F. King as EP and director. Keith Goldberg, Mike Richardson, and Jeremy Webb also EP, with comic creators Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá as co-exec producers. The series is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, for Netflix.

The Umbrella Academy‘ Season 3 premieres Wednesday, 22nd June 2022 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
