Revived ‘Law & Order’ & ‘Organized Crime’ Both Renewed For New Seasons

The revival of Law & Order and spin-off Law & Order: Organized Crime have both landed new seasons to join the previously renewed ‘Law & Order: SVU’ it has been announced.

Dick Wolf’s ‘Law & Order’ is the second longest-running drama series in the history of television. The series premiered in 1990 and ran 20 seasons before returning in 2022. Law & Order’s unique bifurcated format of police procedural and legal drama is known for its ripped-from-the-headline stories. Set and filmed in New York City, the first half is a murder investigation and apprehension of a suspect by NYPD detectives while the second half is the prosecution of the defendant by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

The revived series features a mix of original and new cast, with Sam Waterston, Anthony Anderson, Jeffrey Donovan, Camryn Manheim, Hugh Dancy and Odelya Halevi currently starring. The renewal will take the drama to Season 22.

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’, now renewed for Season 3, follows the detectives of the Organized Crime Control Bureau as they work to dismantle New York City’s most vicious and violent illegal enterprises. Christopher Meloni stars as Det. Elliot Stabler, who returns to the NYPD after a decade away and must rebuild his life after a devastating personal loss. Meloni first played the role as an original cast member on ‘Law & Order: SVU’.

Stabler’s sergeant and partner, Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt), leads the task force with skilful authority, a vast knowledge of underground crime syndicates and a long-game strategy to take them down from the inside. Observant and deceivingly smart, Jet Slootmaekers (Ainsley Seiger) utilizes her tech expertise and hacking skills to give the team a leg up on striking their target.

“The iconic ‘Law & Order’ brand has long been synonymous with NBC and we couldn’t be more excited to bring back all three of these dramas for the 2022-23 season,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Programming, NBCU Entertainment and Streaming. “It’s a testament to the brilliance of Dick Wolf’s storytelling that audiences remain compelled by these unforgettable characters week after week, year after year.”

It has been a good week for Dick Wolf, who saw all the shows in his ‘FBI’ franchise get a double season renewal over on CBS earlier this week. ‘Law & Order: SVU’ was previously handed a three-season renewal back in 2020 alongside Wolf’s other, other, franchise, ‘Chicago Fire/Med/PD’.

“Dreams do come true,” adds executive producer Dick Wolf. “The renewals of the entire Wednesday and Thursday night lineups is the ultimate verification of our partnership with NBC and Universal Television. I personally want to thank the talented writers and casts, the producers who keep the trains running on time and the crews who tirelessly turn out outstanding shows despite a degree of difficulty never before experienced due to the pandemic.”

Currently, the original ‘Law & Order‘ revival series does not have a UK broadcaster. However, ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit‘ Season 23 premieres Monday, 16th May 2022 at 10pm, which will be joined by ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime‘ from Tuesday, 24th May 2022 at 10pm, both on Sky Witness and streaming service NOW.
