Greg Daniels Sci-Fi Comedy ‘Upload’ Starring Robbie Amell Gets March Premiere For Season 2 On Prime Video

Greg Daniels’ comedy series Upload, which stars Robbie Amell, will be back for a 3rd Season Prime Video has announced.

For those of you that haven’t caught the series yet, ‘Upload’ is set in a technologically advanced future where hologram phones, 3D food printers and automated grocery stores are the norm. Most uniquely, humans can choose to be “uploaded” into a virtual afterlife when they find themselves near-death.

The series follows a young app developer, Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell – ‘The Flash’, ‘Code 8’), who winds up in the hospital following a self-driving car accident, needing to quickly decide his fate. After a rushed deliberation with his shallow girlfriend Ingrid (Allegra Edwards – ‘Briarpatch’, ‘The Social Ones’), he chooses to be uploaded to her family’s luxurious virtual afterlife, the Horizen company’s “Lakeview.” Once uploaded in Lakeview, Nathan meets his customer service “Angel” Nora Anthony (Andy Allo – ‘Chicago Fire’), who at first is his charismatic concierge and guide, but quickly becomes his friend and confidante, helping him navigate this new digital extension of life.

“Upload has become a bonafide hit that continues to be one of the most-watched comedy originals on Prime Video,” said Amazon Studios’ head of global television, Vernon Sanders. “The series continues to connect and provoke endless possibilities for the future of technology and humanity. With Greg’s distinct comedic take along with the dynamic creative team and talented actors, they’ve made a globally relevant series which we’re all incredibly proud to bring back another season for our customers.”

The second season, which was released in March, sees Nathan is at a crossroads in his (after) life… his ex-girlfriend Ingrid has unexpectedly arrived to Lakeview hoping to strengthen their relationship, but his heart still secretly yearns for his customer service angel Nora. Meanwhile, Nora is off the grid and involved with the anti-tech rebel group “The Ludds.” Season Two is packed with new near-future concepts, including Lakeview’s newest in-app digital baby program, called “prototykes,” and other satirical glimpses of the technological advances and headaches to come.

“I’m thrilled to continue the story of Nathan and Nora and the other residents of Lakeview and near-future America as they try to have fun and do the right thing in both the real and virtual worlds,” adds Daniels.

(WARNING: SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 BELOW…)

That last part may relate to the fact that Ingrid had been growing a clone body for Nathan as she planned on having him downloaded back into the real world… The only problem is that downloading hasn’t been perfected, and previous tests have resulted in the clones not lasting very long. However, when Nathan discovers that Freeyond, his free upload system, is being offered in swing states as a way to skew the election results, he downloads himself anyway so he can sabotage it. Whilst this does give him and Nora a chance to… connect… in the real world, as the finale ends, he discovers his nose is bleeding, signally that his clone body might not have long left…

Upload’ is an Amazon Original sci-fi comedy series. Alongside Amell, Edwards and Allo, the series also stars Kevin Bigley (‘Here and Now’, ‘BoJack Horseman’) and Zainab Johnson (‘American Koko’). Greg Daniels created the series and also serves as executive producer along with Howard Klein.

Upload‘ Seasons 1 and 2 premieres are available now on Prime Video worldwide.
