Premieres Coming To Disney+ UK In June 2022

As we head into an extremely packed June of television across broadcast and streaming, Disney+ UK is one of those services bringing some “must watch” series, such as new MCU addition Ms. Marvel, the return of both Atlanta and The Orville after long breaks, and Only Murders In The Building after a much shorter break, alongside many more interesting drama, reality, and comedy series. June is also Pride month, so there are a number of LGBTQ+ projects being added to help you celebrate. Here is a breakdown of the new shows coming to Disney+ UK next month.

Disney+ Originals & UK Exclusive June Highlights

Abbott Elementary – 1st June 2022

https://youtu.be/cO-_7oi-61Y

A workplace comedy following a group of dedicated, passionate teachers – and a slightly tone-deaf principal – as they navigate the Philadelphia public school system. Despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life, and though these incredible public servants may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do – even if they don’t love the school district’s less-than-stellar attitude toward educating children. Written by and starring Quinta Brunson, most recently seen on the Emmy-nominated series, ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’.

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 – 2nd June 2022

Seth MacFarlane’s epic space adventure series is set 400 years in the future and follows the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.

Fire Island – 3rd June 2022

Set in the iconic Pines, Andrew Ahn’s ‘Fire Island’ is an unapologetic, modern-day rom-com showcasing a diverse, multicultural examination of queerness and romance. Inspired by the timeless pursuits from Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice, the story centres around two best friends (Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang) who set out to have a legendary summer adventure with the help of cheap rosé and their cadre of eclectic friends.

Hollywood Stargirl – 3rd June 2022

‘Hollywood Stargirl’ is a sequel to the 2020 Disney+ hit about free spirit Stargirl Caraway, a silver-voiced teenager whose simple acts of kindness work magic in the lives of others. The story follows Stargirl’s journey out of Mica, Arizona and into a bigger world of music, dreams and possibilities. When her mother Ana is hired as the costume designer on a movie, they relocate to L.A., where Stargirl quickly becomes involved with an eclectic assortment of characters. They include aspiring filmmaking brothers Evan and Terrell; Mr. Mitchell, one of Stargirl’s neighbours; and Roxanne Martel, a musician Stargirl admires and encounters on her journey.

Ms. Marvel – 8th June 2022

‘Ms. Marvel’ is a new series that introduces Kamala Khan – a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, avid gamer and voracious fan-fiction scribe, she has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school – that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with superpowers, right?

Love, Victor, Season 3 – 15th June 2022

The third and final season of ‘Love, Victor’ finds Victor going on a journey of self-discovery – not only deciding who he wants to be with but, more broadly, who he wants to be. With their post-high-school plans looming, Victor and his friends are faced with a new set of problems that they must work through to make the best choices for their futures.

Rise – 24th June 2022

After emigrating to Greece from Nigeria, Vera and Charles Antetokounmpo struggled to survive and provide for their five children, while living under the daily threat of deportation. Desperate to obtain Greek citizenship but undermined by a system that blocked them at every turn, the family’s vision, determination and faith lifted them out of obscurity to launch the careers of three NBA champions.

Trevor: The Musical – 24th June 2022

A filmed version of the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production, ‘Trevor: The Musical’ follows 13-year-old Trevor (newcomer Holden William Hagelberger) as he navigates a “turbulent journey of self-discovery.” The musical is based on the 1995 Academy Award-winning short film Trevor written by Celeste Lecesne and directed by Peggy Rajski, which inspired the nonprofit organisation The Trevor Project, now the world’s largest suicide prevention and mental health organisation for LGBTQ young people.

Baymax! – 29th June 2022

Baymax returns in an all-new series of healthcare capers set in the fantastical city of San Fransokyo where the affable, inflatable, inimitable healthcare companion robot, sets out to do what he was programmed to do: help others.

Atlanta, Season 3 – 29th June 2022

‘Atlanta’ is created by Donald Glover, and follows two cousins as they work to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. Taking place almost entirely in Europe, Season 3 finds “Earn” (Donald Glover), “Alfred / ‘Paper Boi’” (Brian Tyree Henry), “Darius” (LaKeith Stanfield) and “Van” (Zazie Beetz) in the midst of a successful European tour, as the group navigates their new surroundings as outsiders, and struggle to adjust to the newfound success they had aspired to.

Soprano Sing or Die – June (exact date TBC)

The story behind France’s best-selling artist Soprano combines the universe of Validé, France’s most-watched local scripted series of 2020, with the narrative style of ‘The Last Dance’, and sets it under the Marseille sun. This unknown tale maps a journey to a triple diamond album, and a star who shaped the future of French music. The journey of Saïd M’Roumbaba, aka Soprano, is the saga of four kids from the northern ghettos of Marseille who fought their way out of their circumstances and France’s political landscape to build a musical empire. Hurdle after hurdle, their thirty-year friendship undergoes torment, joy, humiliation, setbacks and triumph.
