‘The Sandman’: Netflix Series Gets Trailer & August Premiere Date

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has released a trailer and announced an August premiere date for Netflix’s much anticipated The Sandman from Neil Gaiman.

Based on the comic book series created for DC by Neil Gaiman, ‘The Sandman’ is a rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven. There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.

The ridiculous cast for the show includes Sturridge as Dream of the Endless; Gwendolyn Christie (‘Game Of Thrones’) as Lucifer; Sanjeev Bhaskar (‘Unforgotten’) and Amid Chaudry (‘People Just Do Nothing’) as Cain and Abel; Charles Dance (‘Game of Thrones’) as Roderick Burgess; Vivienne Acheampong (‘Famalam’) as Lucienne; Boyd Holbrook (‘Narcos’) as The Corinthian; David Thewlis (‘Harry Potter’ films, ‘Fargo’) as John Dee; Kirby Howell-Baptiste (‘The Good Place’, ‘Why Women Kill’) as Death; Mason Alexander Park (‘Cowboy Bebop’) as Desire; Donna Preston (‘Famalam’) as Despair; Jenna Coleman (‘Doctor Who’, ‘Victoria’) as Johanna Constantine; Niamh Walsh (‘Jamestown’, ‘The English Game’) and Joely Richardson (‘The Rook’, ‘Nip/Tuck’) as Ethel Cripps; Kyo Ra as Rose Walker; Razane Jammal (‘Paranormal’, ‘Doubt’) as Lyta Hall; Sandra James Young (‘EastEnders’) as Unity Kinkaid; Stephen Fry as Gilbert; With Patton Oswalt voicing Matthew.

‘The Sandman’ is a new dark fantasy Netflix series based on The Sandman comic book series created for DC by Neil Gaiman (‘Good Omens’, ‘Coraline’). Gaiman is also an Executive Producer and Co-Writer. Allan Heinberg (‘Wonder Woman’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’) serves as Executive Producer and Showrunner. David S. Goyer (‘Batman Begins’, ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Foundation’) serves as Executive Producer and Goyer and Heinberg are also Co-Writers on the project. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television.

The Sandman‘ will air Friday, 5th August 2022 on Netflix.
