‘A League of Their Own’: Prime Video’s Baseball Drama Gets Trailer & August Premiere Date

by Dave Elliott

Prime Video has set an August premiere date for their baseball drama series, based on the beloved 1992 film A League of Their Own, along with releasing a trailer.

This reinterpretation of ‘A League of Their Own’ evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the League and outside of it.

The series stars Abbi Jacobson (‘Broad City’) and Chanté Adams, alongside the fabulous Emmy nominee D’Arcy Carden (Janet in ‘The Good Place’), and BAFTA winner Gbemisola Ikumelo (‘Broadchurch’, ‘Famalam’). Roberta Colindrez, Nick Offerman, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Kate Berlant, Kendall Johnson, Kelly McCormack, Alex Désert, Priscilla Delgado, Aaron Jennings, Molly Ephraim, Melanie Field and Dale Dickey also star.

The drama comes from Sony Pictures Television and is exec produced by co-creators Abbi Jacobson (‘Broad City’), who also stars, and Will Graham (‘Mozart in the Jungle’). ‘A League of Their Own’ is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television in association with Field Trip Productions. Executive producers are Will Graham, Abbi Jacobson, Field Trip’s Hailey Wierengo, and co-executive producer Elizabeth Koe. Jamie Babbit served as executive producer for and directed the pilot. Based on the film from Sony’s Columbia Pictures.

A League of Their Own‘ Season 1 premieres Friday, 10th August 2022 on Prime Video UK and worldwide.
