Netflix “Geeked Week” Animation Day Round-Up

Netflix’s “Geeked Week” is in full swing, and yesterday’s announcements focused on the new and returning animated projects coming to the streaming service. Here is a breakdown of things you can look forward to watching soon.

Masters of the Universe: Revolution

Following on from ‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation’, Kevin Smith is set for a return trip to Eternia with another star-studded sequel to the beloved ’80s franchise.

The ‘Revelation’ series focused on the unresolved storylines of the classic ’80s era, picking up many of the characters’ journeys where they left off decades ago. The voice cast is a “who’s who” of geekdom with people from across a range of sci-fi/fantasy shows, along with a handful of Smith alumni. ‘Supergirl’ & ‘The Vampire Diaries’ star Chris Wood takes the lead role as Prince Adam/He-Man, whilst the legendary Mark Hamill voices Skeletor. They are joined by ‘Buffy’ herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, alongside ‘Game Of Thrones’ stars  Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn and Liam Cunningham as Man-At-Arms.

‘Revolution’ will pick up right where the previous series left off, and once again, pit He-Man and his allies against the nefarious Skeletor.

Arcane: Bridging the Rift Docuseries

‘Arcane: Bridging the Rift’ is a five-part docuseries about the making of Arcane, which sees Arcane co-creator Christian Linke discussing the series’ inception and the partnership with the animation studio, Fortiche, that brought the show to life. Interesting, the series will come to Riot Games Youtube on 4th August 2022.

Entergalactic

‘Entergalactic’ is a new adult animated project from the mind of Grammy-winning rapper and singer Kid Cudi. Based on his upcoming album of the same name, ‘Entergalactic’ follows a young artist named Jabari (voiced by Cudi) on his journey to discover love.

Cudi is joined by an impressive voice cast which includes Jessica Williams, Timothée Chalamet, Ty Dolla $ign, Laura Harrier, Vanessa Hudgens, Christopher Abbott, 070 Shake, Jaden Smith, Keith David, Teyana Taylor, Arturo Castro, and Macaulay Culkin.

Farzar

‘Farzar’ new adult animated sci-fi comedy from the creators of ‘Paradise PD’ about Prince Fichael and his misfit crew called the “S.H.A.T” squad who venture out of their domed human city to fight the evil aliens that want to kill and/or eat them. As they begin their journey, they quickly discover that all is not what it seems.

Moonrise

Set in a futuristic world where humans inhabit both the Earth and the Moon, ‘Moonrise’ follows a young man from Earth who enlists in the army to attack rebels on the Moon, only to find that his former best friend has become his enemy.

The new anime series comes from novelist and screenwriter Tou Ubukata, director Masashi Koizuka and WIT STUDIO.

The Seven Deadly Sins: The Grudge of Edinburgh

‘The Seven Deadly Sins: The Grudge of Edinburgh’ is a spin-off story by Nakaba Suzuki, which follows Meliodas’ son Tristan as he attempts to unlock and control his power inherited from his parents.

Tristan inherits the power of the Goddess Clan and can heal people’s wounds and injuries, but he often ends up hurting others due to his inability to control his Demon Clan power. To protect his family, Tristan heads to Edinburgh Castle and meets a host of new friends along the way.

The film is co-written by Nakaba Suzuki and Rintarou Ikeda (‘Seven Deadly Sins’) and directed by Bob Shirohata (‘Transformers: The Headmasters’).

Inside Job, Part 2

‘Inside Job’ returns later this year for Part 2. The series is an adult animated comedy about the shadow government– and the dysfunctional team whose daily grind is committing the world’s conspiracies. From convoluted coverups to secret societies to masked orgy etiquette, navigating office culture at Cognito Inc. can be tricky, especially for anti-social tech genius Reagan Ridley. Even in a workplace filled with reptilian shapeshifters and psychic mushrooms, she’s seen as the odd one out for believing the world could be a better place. Reagan thinks she can make a difference, if only she could manage her unhinged, manifesto-writing father, her irresponsible coworkers, and finally snag the promotion she’s been dreaming about.

Uncle From Another World

An anime adaptation of Hotondoshindeiru’s beloved manga of the same name, about a young man’s uncle who wakes from a 17-year coma with magical powers and a newfound love for video games.

Shigeki Kawai (‘Blue Exorcist’ assistant director) is the director, with Kenta Ihara (‘Mieruko-Chan’) as series composer and scriptwriter, and Kazuhiro Oota (‘Natsu no Arashi!’) as character designer. Atelier Pontdarc is the animation production company.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ expands the world of video game Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City in surprising new ways, and will premiere in September 2022 on Netflix. The standalone, 10-episode story follows a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future.
