ITVX Will Add 9000hrs Of Streaming Content, Inc. Imports, Premieres & Boxsets, Launching Late 2022

ITV has announced a little bit more about their new free streaming service, ITVX, which will bring with it 9,000hrs of tv content including exclusive UK drama premieres, imported shows, films, and boxsets.

Due to launch in the UK in late 2022, the service will replace ITV Hub and promises 35 flagship shows, 250+ films and 200+ series available at launch, alongside 150+ hours of true crime incoming, and a sci-fi/fantasy collection featuring new and classic series. Here is how it breaks down.

ITVX Commissions

ITVX will premiere a collection of new UK dramas at launch, which will only be available on the streamer for at least six months before making their debut on ITV channels. They include the hotly anticipated cold war drama A Spy Among Friends starring Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce, provocative new teen drama ‘Tell Me Everything’, and gripping four-part thriller ‘Without Sin’ starring Vicky McClure. At least one flagship show will then launch on ITVX per week going forward including Russell T Davies’ Nolly starring Helena Bonham Carter, powerful period drama ‘The Confessions of Frannie Langton’ starring Karla-Simone Spence, Sophie Cookson and Patrick Martins, and Litvinenko starring David Tennant and Mark Bonnar.

Boxsets

In addition to exclusive premieres of new series, the service will be launching full boxsets of upcoming flagship ITV shows on their first day of broadcast, allowing you to binge your way through them. Early examples will include the real-life drama ‘Stonehouse’ starring Matthew Macfadyen and Keeley Hawes, alongside the new series of Unforgotten. These series are in addition to the vast library of over 200 both recent and classic US and UK dramas, comedies and reality shows that will be available to users.

Films

On the film side of things, ITVX will launch with the UK’s largest free film library featuring stars such as Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Lawrence, Sir Michael Caine, Anthony Hopkins, Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Hardy, Nicolas Cage, The Muppets and many more with further details to be announced.

Documentaries

ITVX looks like it will be a good location for true crime fans as well, with over 150hrs of documentaries and a dedicated true crime collection, including shows such as ‘Monster in My Family’, which delves into the lives of serial killers in a way that’s rarely seen. ‘The Case Against Cosby’ – a premium documentary exposing new truths about accusations against the comedian will follow in 2023.

Sci-Fi/Fantasy & US Imports

Interestingly, for those geeks amongst you (myself included!) ITVX specifically highlighted some of the sci-fi and fantasy series coming to the platform. Of particular note to Gerry Anderson fans, they list series such as ‘Thunderbirds’, ‘Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons’, ‘Terrahawks’, ‘Joe 90’, ‘Stingray’, ‘Space 1999’ and ‘UFO’ all arriving on the service.

If US imports are more your speed, they have listed ‘Supernatural’, ‘The 100’ and ‘Nikita’ dropping on the service, along with a couple of UK premieres announced today. They are supernatural teen dramedy Astrid and Lilly Save the World, and Dramaworld, the hit Korean-American dramedy which follows an American college student who magically is transported into her favourite Korean tv show.

Outside of sci-fi and fantasy, other previously announced US imports include HBO Max series The Sex Lives of College Girls and The CW’s All American, alongside ‘The OC’, ‘One Tree Hill’ and Veronica Mars.

What Is ITVX and will it cost you anything?

Launching in late 2022, ITVX is a UK streaming service, replacing the ITV Hub, and will come with two tiers. The base service will be completely free, supported by adverts. There will also be an ad-free paid subscription option, which not only removes the ads but will also give you the BritBox UK streaming service included as well. The pricing of the subscription tier in ITVX will be announced later this year.
