‘The Idol’: Trailer Lands For Sam Levinson/The Weeknd Series Starring Lily-Rose Depp, Coming To Sky & NOW

by Dave Elliott

Sky has released the first trailer for The Idol, a new series from the sick and twisted minds of Sam Levinson (‘ Euphoria’) and The Weeknd, starring Lily-Rose Depp, coming to Sky & NOW later this year.

The series is set against the backdrop of the music industry and focuses on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult who enters into a complicated relationship with a rising pop idol.

Development on the series has not been smooth sailing. The show underwent a creative overhaul back in April 2022 with both original director Amy Seimetz and actress Suzanna Son leaving the drama. Levinson took over the director role, whilst Son was replaced by Debby Ryan (‘Insatiable’).

Alongside Depp (‘The King’) and Ryan, the series stars Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) along with other actor/musicians. They include Troye Sivan, Rachel Sennott, Jennie Kim, Steve Zissis, Hari Nef, and Juliebeth Gonzalez.

The Idol‘ is set to air on Sky and streaming service NOW in the UK, with HBO running the drama in the USA. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
