‘Supacell’: Netflix Announces Cast For UK-Based Superpower Series

Netflix has announced production begins later this month on Supacell in South London, a superpowered drama from rapper/writer/actor/director/producer Rapman, along with revealing the cast.

The series follows a group of five ordinary people who unexpectedly develop superpowers. They have little in common except for one thing: they are all Black South Londoners. It is down to one man, Michael Lasaki, to bring them all together in order to save the woman he loves.

Tosin Cole (‘Doctor Who’, ’61st’, ‘Street’, ‘Till’, ‘Ear for Eye’) takes the role of Michael, with Nadine Mills (‘Sliced and The Weekend’) as Sabrina, Eric Kofi Abrefa (‘Blue Story’, ‘BMF’) as Andre, Calvin Demba (‘The Rig’, ‘Life’, ‘Micky and the Bear’) as Rodney, Josh Tedeku (‘Moonhaven’, ‘A Town Called Malice’) as Tazer, Adelayo Adedayo (‘The Responder’, ‘Timewasters’) as Dionne, Rayxia Ojo (Harry Potter and The Cursed Child – West End Production, ‘Call The Midwife’) as Sharleen and Giacomo Mancini (‘Top Boy’, ‘Orthodox’) as Spud.

Rapman will be directing Episodes 1, 2 and 6, with episodes 3 – 5 directed by Sebastian Thiel (‘Dreaming Whilst Black’, ‘Just A Couple’ and forthcoming drama ‘Riches’). Rapman serves as Executive Producer alongside Anna Ferguson and Steve Searle for Netflix. Mark Hedges is Series Producer and Sheila Nortley serves as Block 2 Producer and Associate Producer. Geraldine Hawkins serves as Co-Producer. Mouktar Mohammed and Henrietta Lee of New Wave are Executive Producer and Associate Producer respectively.

In addition to filming the series, Rapman, alongside New Wave and Netflix, has also founded the “Supacell Six” scheme, which gives black creatives the opportunity to break into the TV industry. The initiative gives six chosen candidates the opportunity to grow in their chosen field through shadowing crew, access to experts in their field and additional upskilling courses. The “Supacell Six” include Jessica Magaye, Ricardo McCleary-Campbell, Saraphina Mattis, Melissa Simon-Hartman, Cleo Young and Micheal Ademilua.

Supacell‘ does not yet have a premiere date, but if you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
