Neflix Renews ‘The Umbrella Academy’ for 4th & Final Season

The Umbrella Academy will be back for one more season as Netflix announce they have renewed the comic book drama for a fourth and final season.

The wonderfully weird family superhero drama is based in a reality where, on the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. Season 1 saw the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father’s passing and having to work as a team once more to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

“I’m so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey we began five years ago,” said series creator Steve Blackman. “But before we get to that conclusion, we’ve got an amazing story ahead for Season 4, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes.”

The third season, which aired in June this year saw the gang having to save the world from yet another impending apocalypse. However, this time, they also had to contend with the fact that the Earth they arrived back to following their season two time-travel adventures had changed things. This meant Luther (Tom Hopper), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Diego (David Castañeda), Viktor (Elliot Page) and Number Five’s (Aidan Gallagher) returned to find “The Umbrella Academy” had been replaced by “The Sparrow Academy”, complete with a very much alive (albeit very different) Ben (Justin H. Min)!

(SPOILERS FOR SEASON 3) When we left our heroes at the end of last season, the apocalypse which was “eating” the world caused by a kugelblitz (aka black hole) had been averted, however, the resulting new reality had left the remaining Umbrella & Sparrow Academy siblings powerless.

Steve Blackman returns as showrunner and exec producer, with Jeff F. King as EP and director. Keith Goldberg, Mike Richardson, and Jeremy Webb also EP, with comic creators Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá as co-exec producers. The series is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, for Netflix.

The Umbrella Academy‘ Seasons 1 to 3 are on Netflix right now. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
