4th and final season of ‘Manifest‘ will begin this November Netflix has announced, along with releasing a new trailer for part one of the season.
When Montego Air Flight 828 landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight, the crew and passengers were relieved. Yet in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years — and their friends, families and colleagues, after mourning their loss, had given up hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they’re all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds and some of the returned passengers soon realize they may be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible in this emotionally rich, unexpected journey into a world grounded in hope, heart, and destiny.
It has been a bumpy ride for the passengers of Flight 828. Back in June 2021, NBC opted to cancel the series after three seasons, much to the annoyance of fans, and the show’s creator, Jeff Rake, who had originally laid out plans for a six-season story arc. However, a week prior to the cancellation, Netflix US struck a deal with WBTV to begin streaming the first two seasons in a second-run window on the streaming service in the USA. It then sat in Netflix’s top ten for more than a month and topped the Nielsen streaming ratings in its first week of release. Originally, the streamer said no to picking up the show, but it continued to sit at the top of the US Netflix charts, which drew them back to the table to hammer out a deal.
If you remember where we left things in Season 3 (SPOILERS) Ben’s (Josh Dallas) wife, Grace (Athena Karkanis) had been murdered by troubled passenger Angelina (Holly Taylor), who also kidnaps their baby , Eden. Cal (Jack Messina) disappeared after touching the plane’s tail fin and then returns five years older (now played by Ty Doran), cryptically stating, “I know what I have to do now.” We also got a quick glimpse of the flight’s captain when he reappeared in the cockpit, only to vanish seconds later and take the remains of the plane with him.
As we head into Season 4, a devastated Ben continues to mourn his wife and search for his kidnapped daughter Eden. Consumed by his grief, Ben has stepped down from his role as co-captain of the lifeboat, leaving Michaela to captain it alone – a near impossible feat with the passengers’ every move now being monitored by a government registry.
As the Death Date draws closer and the passengers grow desperate for a path to survival, a mysterious passenger arrives with a package for Cal that changes everything they know about Flight 828 and will prove to be the key to unlocking the secret of the Callings in this compelling, mind-bending, and deeply emotional journey.
Season 4 promises to unpack more of the overarching mystery of what really happens to the passengers during the moment of turbulence and why they’ve been chosen to experience callings ever since. “As exhausting and crazy-making as these callings [are] and the responsibility of being an 828er is, it’s not just about them,” comments creator Jeff Rake. “The interconnectedness of all of us, and how small actions can have implications that cascade outward and touch the whole world is what the show is about.”
This 4th season consists of 20 episodes split into two parts, and will be the final season.
Manifest‘ Season 4, Part 1 premieres Friday, 4th November 2022 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
