‘Titans’: Titus Welliver Joins Season 4 Of DC Series As Lex Luthor
HBO Max DC drama ‘Titans‘ has found a new Lex Luthor, as it’s announced Titus Welliver will take on the iconic role in Season 4.
‘Titans’ follows Dick Grayson, aka the former Robin (Brenton Thwaites), who emerges from the shadows as Nightwing to lead a band of heroes – including Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) and others. The story follows this group of young heroes as they come of age and find belonging.
Titus Welliver, who takes on the role of the criminal mastermind Lex Luthor next season, is probably best known for playing the title role in the ‘Bosch’ series. However, his extensive list of work includes ‘Lost’, ‘Deadwood’, ‘Sons of Anarchy’, ‘Suits’, ‘The Good Wife’, ‘Agents Of SHIELD’, ‘The Last Ship’, and many more. This also isn’t his first outing as a DC villain, having voiced Carmine Falcone in the ‘Batman: The Long Halloween’ animated movies.
In an interview with EW, ‘Titans’ showrunner Greg Walker revealed that it was not at all hard to convince Welliver to take the role. “You usually have to do this whole dog-and-pony show to get an actor to do the show,” said Walker. “But when I called to kind of lure him in, I could barely get a word in. We were talking on the phone and he was just walking through his library, telling me about all his Wolfman/Perez Titans editions. He’s a giant, giant fan.”
This version of Luthor “has a very sensitive, thoughtful approach to evil and power,” continues Walker. “You know what he’s done, what he’s capable of doing, except like many of those people, he’s personable.”
He also is set to cause a crisis for Joshua Orpin’s Connor. If you remember, this version of Superboy is a clone created by mixing Superman and Luthor’s DNA. “He’s explored his Superman self, but he has not really explored his Lex self,” adds Walker. “What does that mean when you do? What happens when you give that self the keys to the car? Does it start driving the wrong way at rush hour 100 miles an hour?”

Welliver joins the other new cast announced for next season including Joseph Morgan (‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘The Originals’) as Sebastian Blood (aka Brother Blood), an introverted man with a strong intelligence and a hidden, darker nature; Franka Potente (‘Copper’, ‘American Horror Story’) as May Bennett (aka Mother Mayhem). A natural leader who always carries the threat of violence with her, she is a predator in human form with an unfettered belief in her mission in the world; And Lisa Ambalavanar (‘Doctors’, ‘The A List’) as Jinx, a quick-witted criminal loner and a master of dark magic with a joy for manipulating others and creating chaos while doing it.
‘Titans‘ Season 4 does not yet have a UK premiere date, but is due to return in November 2022 on HBO Max in the USA, so is likely to be Late 2022/Early 2023 on Netflix here.
