‘Buffering’: Iain Stirling’s Sitcom Renewed For Season 2 On ITV2

ITV2 has renewed Iain Stirling’s sitcom Buffering for a 2nd Season the broadcaster has announced.

The comedy continues to follow Iain (Iain Stirling) and his housemates, Rosie (Jessie Cave), Greg (Paul G Raymond), Ashley (Rosa Robson) and Thalia (Janine Harouni), alongside on-off girlfriend Olivia (Elena Saurel), as they enter their late 20’s, with every wrong decision, failed relationship and wasted hungover day intensifying the feeling that time is running out for them to get their ‘adult’ lives in order.

The series is created by and stars BAFTA-winning comedian Iain Stirling (Love Island, CelebAbility, Taskmaster), with co-creator and writer BBC New Comedy Award-winning Steve Bugeja (The Russell Howard Hour, CelebAbility, Economics with Subtitles).

Season one landed solid reviews across the board, with The Times saying it has “a level of expertise that clearly shows… tear-jerking and heart-warming.” The Evening Standard adds that it has the “pacey feel of an American sitcom… the plot is more ambitious than you might expect for ITV2… Bugeja was big on structure, Stirling wanted to get as many jokes in as possible. Judging by the first episode they have reached a successful compromise.”

“Steve and I are truly delighted to bring our passion project Buffering back for a second instalment,” said Stirling. “We can’t wait to show you what our housemates get up to.”

Set to air in 2023, ‘Buffering’ has been commissioned by Paul Mortimer, ITV’s Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions and Nana Hughes, ITV’s Head of Scripted Comedy. The series is a Comedy 50:50 production with Christine Robertson, Sally O’Leary, Janine Harouni, and Jessie Cave co-writing some episodes. Sam Michell (Stewart Lee: Snowflake/Tornado, Mrs Brown’s Boys) is producer, while Sophie King (Disability Benefits, Swan) directs. Produced by Avalon and Executive Produced by Richard Allen-Turner and Jon Thoday.

“It’s fantastic to see ITV2’s continued commitment and support shown for this funny and sharp show from Iain Stirling and Steve Bugeja,” adds Richard Allen-Turner, Executive Producer, Avalon.

Buffering‘ Season 1 can be found on ITV Hub (soon to be ITVX), with Season 2 landing in 2023. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
