Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul’s Vince Gilligan New Project Gets 2 Season Order At Apple, Starring Rhea Seehorn

With ‘Better Call Saul’ over, and the book closed (at least for the foreseeable future) on the ‘Breaking Bad’ universe, creator Vince Gilligan has landed at Apple for his new project, and he’s bringing Rhea Seehorn along with him.

Apple TV+ today announced a two-season straight-to-series order for (the series known currently as) “Untitled Vince Gilligan Project”. The new series is helmed by acclaimed creator Vince Gilligan and starring Emmy Award-nominee Rhea Seehorn in the lead role. Seenhorn is, of course, probably best known for her outstanding performance as Kim Wexler in ‘Better Call Saul’.

As to what exactly the show is about… we have absolutely no idea! What we do know is that various networks were lining up to hear Gilligan’s pitch for it, despite him looking for around $14 million per episode budget for the project. Apple does, of course, have deep enough pockets to foot that bill, and has been doing an incredible job with the shows it has brought to series on its streaming service. From ‘The Morning Show’ to ‘Ted Lasso’, Apple has been winning awards and critical acclaim across the board.

The new series comes from Sony Pictures Television and will mark Gilligan’s first project following the creation of ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’. It also marks the second collaboration for Gilligan with Seehorn, who recently landed an Emmy Award nomination for her widely celebrated performance in the latter of those series. Gilligan will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Jeff Frost and Diane Mercer also executive produce, with Jenn Carroll producing for High Bridge Productions.

“After fifteen years, I figured it was time to take a break from writing antiheroes… and who’s more heroic than the brilliant Rhea Seehorn? It’s long past time she had her own show, and I feel lucky to get to work on it with her,” commented Gilligan. “And what nice symmetry to be reunited with Zack Van Amburg, Jamie Erlicht and Chris Parnell! Jamie and Zack were the first two people to say yes to Breaking Bad all those years ago. They’ve built a great team at Apple, and my wonderful, long-time partners at Sony Pictures Television and I are excited to be in business with them.”

The “Untitled Vince Gilligan Project” is the latest Apple Original series from Sony Pictures Television, joining hit space drama series For All Mankind, which is currently in production on its fourth season; the highly anticipated series adaption of ‘Dark Matter’, starring Joel Edgerton, who also serves as executive producer, and Jennifer Connelly; the broadly acclaimed and hit murder-mystery comedy series The Afterparty from Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe Award winners Chris Miller and Phil Lord; and, upcoming comedy ‘Platonic’, starring Emmy Award-nominee Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen.
