The BBC has released a trailer for ‘Doctor Who: The Power Of The Doctor‘, the final outing for Jodie Whittaker as the timelord, which premieres this October.
In this feature-length special to mark her last adventure, Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor must fight for her very existence, against her deadliest enemies: the Daleks, the Cybermen and her arch-nemesis, the Master.
Who is attacking a speeding bullet train on the edges of a distant galaxy? Why are seismologists going missing from 21st-century Earth? Who is defacing some of history’s most iconic paintings? Why is a Dalek trying to make contact with the Doctor? And just what hold does the mesmeric Rasputin have over Tsar Nicholas in 1916 Russia?
The Doctor faces multiple threats… and a battle to the death.
Joining Jodie in this final outing will be companions Mandip Gill as Yaz, John Bishop as Dan and Jacob Anderson as Vinder, alongside Jemma Redgrave reprising her role as UNIT’s Kate Stewart. There are also a few older companions returning for this final adventure, as Sophie Aldred reprises her role as former Seventh Doctor companion Ace, alongside Janet Fielding who returns as former Fourth & Fifth Doctor companion Tegan. As you can see in the trailer, Sacha Dhawan returns to portray the Master.
The trailer also appears to give a glimpse of the Thirteenth Doctor’s regeneration sequence. It is expected that she will hand over the TARDIS keys to Ncuti Gatwa, who was announced as taking over the role back in May. However, there has been some suggestion that things might not be that straightforward… We do know that the 60th Anniversary episode, due to air in 2023, will feature the return of David Tennant in some capacity. Whether that factors in here at all remains to be seen.
The episode is written by current showrunner Chris Chibnall who hands the sonic screwdriver back to Russell T Davies has he takes control for Ncuti’s run on the series. Jamie Magnus Stone directs.
