Dwayne Johnson Open to a Rampage Sequel

Even before the release of Rampage in 2018, Dwayne Johnson had expressed his interest in making a sequel. The Hollywood A-lister saw the franchise potential of the monster movie, and, surprisingly, there hasn’t been a follow-up in the years since.

Director Brad Peyton and Johnson have been busy with other projects over the last few years, but there is a chance they could return to Rampage. Indeed, there are even some reports that suggest it could become a trilogy with two more instalments.

Rampage is the Ideal Franchise Film

Modern Hollywood blockbusters have franchise potential, with production studios often wanting to keep their options open. There are various mediums open for collaboration, with films adapted into games and spinoffs, and even games adapted into movie franchises or a TV series. These appear on a range of platforms, and in diverse forms.

The franchise model can be an excellent way to boost films, as it draws more attention to them and can sometimes increase ticket sales on future offerings.

Rampage is an ideal candidate for this, as the film itself is already based on a game. The Rampage series has been around in the gaming industry since 1986; it was released for arcade machines by Midway Games.

There have been six games since then, with the most recent coming in 2018 as a reboot of the series. This was also an arcade machine available exclusively at Dave & Buster’s and Hollywood Bowl.  Finding real money slots online which draw from retro games like the Rampage Series, as well as various other games which have been inspired by Rampage, is simpler than before with cross-platform franchises. There are plenty of slot machines with similar themes such as Gorilla Go Wilder, and Jungle Fortune. The reboot and franchise potential for vintage games like Rampage is clear, and it would make sense for studios to expand their vision into a multi-platform franchise, such as online or mobile gaming.

Johnson and Peyton Busy With Other Projects

Peyton has already confirmed that he would be open to a return to the Rampage franchise, and he even said that he was presented with ideas for the story. The director and Johnson have a long history of collaboration, so it wouldn’t be hard to get them to agree to work on this one together. Johnson’s appeal as a leading man means men and women will rush to see his movies in the cinema, with his heartthrob status already cemented. It seems that the main problem is finding the time to make the movie, as both are busy with other projects.

Peyton is currently working on Atlas with Jennifer Lopez in the lead role. There’s currently no confirmation about the release date for the science fiction offering. Johnson is set to star in Red One in 2023, and he will be in high demand for many other projects as one of the film industry’s leading talents.

It’s good to know that Johnson is keen on the idea, and hopefully, the next instalment will be announced soon. After Johnson and Peyton complete their upcoming movies, there’s a chance they could reunite for Rampage 2. Rampage has incredible sequel and spinoff potential, and, surprisingly, this hasn’t been capitalised on yet.
