‘The Rig’: Prime Video Renews Drama Starring Iain Glen, Martin Compston & Emily Hampshire
Prime Video has renewed their supernatural drama ‘The Rig‘ for a 2nd Season with Iain Glen, Martin Compston and Emily Hampshire all set to reprise their roles.
Season one of ‘The Rig’ followed the crew of the Kinloch Bravo oil rig stationed off the Scottish coast in the dangerous waters of the North Sea. When they were due to be collected and return to the mainland, a mysterious and all-enveloping fog rolled through. The rig is hit by massive tremors, and they find themselves cut off from all communication with the shore and the outside world.
The second season will pick up with the surviving crewmembers who were helicoptered off the rig and taken to a new location, where fresh danger awaits. They must contend with swirling conspiracies, conflicts, and new threats from the depths of the world’s oceans.
Iain Glen (‘Game of Thrones’), Emily Hampshire (‘Schitt’s Creek’) and Martin Compston (‘Line of Duty’) return to their roles from season one, alongside Rochenda Sandall (‘Criminal: UK’), Owen Teale (‘Game of Thrones’), Mark Addy (‘Game of Thrones’), Molly Vevers (‘The Spanish Princess’), Abraham Popoola (‘Cruella’), and Stuart McQuarrie (‘Des’).
The Rig’ is created by author, poet and screenwriter David Macpherson. John Strickland (‘Line of Duty’, ‘Bodyguard’) directs and exec produces alongside the founder of Wild Mercury, Derek Wax.
“In series two, I’m looking forward to expanding the world of our show through the eyes of our excellent cast, as we deliver more shocks and thrills and delve deeper into both our characters’ and our show’s expanding original mythology,” said Macpherson.
As with the first season, the drama will be filmed at First Stage Studios in Edinburgh and produced by Wild Mercury Productions. Season two will begin shooting later in 2023.
