‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ Casts Jack Kesy As Lead, Alongside Jefferson White & Adeline Rudolph

There is a new Hellboy movie on the way, and it will have a new actor under the filed-down horns, in the form of ‘Deadpool 2’ actor Jack Kesy, with Jefferson White & Adeline Rudolph joining him in the cast.

After the somewhat lacklustre box office performance of the last movie, which starred David Harbor, ‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ is set to return to the source, with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, alongside his Dark Horse comic collaborator, Chris Golden, writing the script. The story is an adaptation of Mignola’s 2008 book, which sees Hellboy stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia alongside a rookie BPRD agent. They discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: The Crooked Man.

Donning the red makeup for this outing will be Jack Kesy, who is probably best known for his roles as Black Tom Cassidy in ‘Deadpool 2’, and for playing Gabriel Bolivar, aka The Master, in FX series ‘The Strain’. He also portrayed Roller Husser in the TNT drama ‘Claws’, and has appeared films such as ’12 Strong’, ‘Baywatch’, and ‘Without Remorse’.

Kesy will be the third actor to play Hellboy in live-action. The role was first taken by Ron Perlman in the two Guillermo del Toro movies. David Harbor took over the role in the 2019 film directed by Neil Marshall. That latter movie came from Millennium, who bought the rights to Hellboy in 2018 with the hope of creating a new string of movies. Unfortunately, it failed to set the box office alight, rather stumbling at the first hurdle. ‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ will be Millennium’s second attempt to revive the franchise, and they’re hoping that having Mignola on board will make a difference.

“The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films where Mike Mignola and the creator of the comics will finally shepherd an authentic version of his stories and characters in film form,” commented Jeffrey Greenstein, President, Millennium Media. “This is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar (and new) ways.”

The film will be directed by Brian Taylor, who is probably best known for the Jason Statham-led ‘Crank’ films. However, he has also worked on a number of comic-to-film adaptations including the 2011 ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ movie starring Nic Cage, and the 2010 film ‘Jonah Hex’ starring Josh Brolin. On the tv side, he wrote and directed a number of episodes of Syfy’s wonderfully bonkers ‘Happy!’, based on the Grant Morrison comic.

Joining Kesy in the movie will be Jefferson White who will play Tom Ferrell, and Adeline Rudolph who takes the role of Bobbie Jo Song. White currently stars in hit drama ‘Yellowstone’ as Jimmy Hurdstrom, and previously had a recurring role on ‘Chicago PD’ as Sean O’Neil. Rudolph played Billie Wesker in Netflix’s short-lived ‘Resident Evil’ series, and also Agatha in ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’.

‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ is a Millennium Media (‘The Expendables’ franchise, ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’) presentation in association with Dark Horse Entertainment. The Nu Boyana production is being produced in association with Campbell Grobman Film.

‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ does not yet have a release date, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
