‘The Cleaner’: Season 2 Of Greg Davies Comedy Gets March Premiere On BBC One

The BBC has set a March premiere date for the return of Greg Davies as The Cleaner in Season 2.

Co-written by and starring Greg Davies, ‘The Cleaner’ follows Paul “Wicky” Wickstead on more of his eventful cleaning jobs. Armed again with his chemicals, scrubbing brushes and cleaning rags, Wicky removes more gruesome remains at the scenes of new crimes, including in a theatre, an electrical goods store, and a stately home. It is here he meets some more unusual characters and gets sucked into their worlds as he can’t help but gossip as he cleans, all the while trying to get down to the pub.

In the opening episode of season two, titled “The Transaction”, Wicky faces the ultimate test of self-control: a job in a pub, after he’s promised his new girlfriend he’ll stay off the booze. But resisting a pint is the least of his challenges once he meets hard-bitten landlady Lisa and muscle-bound barman Cuddle. Wicky is there to clean up the devastation left by a lethal brawl, but as a web of romantic and criminal intrigue slowly unravels around him, Wicky realises there’s more to this job than just cleaning up blood (and the occasional severed human ear).

As with season one, season two is packed full of guest co-stars including Zoë Wanamaker (Britannia), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), Harriet Walter (This Is Going to Hurt), Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral), John MacMillan (House of the Dragon), Alex Lawther (The End of the F..ing World), Susannah Fielding (This Time With Alan Partridge), Roisin Conaty (After Life), Mark Lewis Jones (Outlander), Rudi Dharmalingam (The Split), Joshua McCord (The Tuckers), Louis Emerick (Zapped), Amy Morgan (Mr Selfridge), Charlie Rawes (Dune), Jemma Carlton (Maxine), Shakin’ Stevens, Rebecca Lee (Call the Midwife), and Cassius Thompson. Zita Sattar returns in her role as PS Ruth Edwards.

Season two is co-written by Paul Allen, Barry Castagnola, Meg Salter and Mike Wozniak, and is based on the multi-award winning long-running German comedy series Der Tatortreiniger created by Mizzi Meyer. The series is directed by Tom Marshall and Dominic Brigstocke.

The Cleaner‘ Season 2 premieres 24th March 2023 at 9.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
