‘Neighbours’ Begins Filming New Episodes For Amazon Freevee
It’s time for ‘Neighbours’ to become good friends once again as Amazon Freevee announces filming has begun on new episodes of the beloved soap which was saved from cancellation by the free streaming service last year.
The continuation of the long-running soap series – about the lives, loves, and challenges of the residents on Ramsay Street in Erinsborough, Australia, a fictional suburb of Melbourne – follows the finale in 2022, which was watched by millions of adoring fans.
There are a number of familiar faces returning to the series, with Alan Fletcher (Karl Kennedy), Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy) and Ryan Moloney (Toadie Rebecchi), Annie Jones (Jane Harris), Rebekah Elmaloglou (Terese Willis), Georgie Stone (Mackenzie Hargreaves), Tim Kano (Leo Tanaka), and Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson) all reprising their series regular roles. In addition, Ian Smith (Harold Bishop), Melissa Bell (Lucy Robinson) and April Rose Pengilly (Chloe Brennan) are all set to pop up for guest spots on the soap.
The last 12 months have been a rollercoaster for ‘Neighbours’ fans. Back in March 2022, after 37 years on air, the soap was axed when Channel 5 opted not to continue its contract with the show. Although the series is set and made in Australia, the production relied heavily on funding from the UK broadcaster to allow it to continue. Fremantle, who produce the series, had approached a number of other UK broadcasters in an effort to save the show, but no one was prepared to step in, leading to a massive all-star finale episode, bringing back many of the people who got their start on the soap. Cut to November 2022, and Amazon announced they had picked up the series for their Freevee streaming service, and it would continue in 2023.
The revitalised series will premiere for free, exclusively on Amazon Freevee in the UK and U.S. The series will also stream on Prime Video in Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa, and will be available seven days after launch on Prime Video in Australia. Previous seasons of ‘Neighbours’ as well as many iconic episodes are currently available to stream on Amazon Freevee.
‘Neighbours’ ran for more than three decades, garnering fans across the globe and launching the careers of many household names, such as Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, and Russell Crowe. Neighbours is produced by Fremantle. Jason Herbison, Neighbours’ executive producer since 2013, will maintain his position on the exciting new chapter of ‘Neighbours’, with Andrew Thompson returning as producer.
‘Neighbours’ will return in the latter half of 2023 on Amazon Freevee in the UK and USA.
