‘Doctor Who’: The Doctor and Ruby Head To The 60s & First Look At Jinkx Monsoon’s Villian

As we head towards the return of ‘Doctor Who’ to our screens later this year, the BBC has released some images of the upcoming 2024 season which sees the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and new companion Ruby (Millie Gibson) head to the swinging 60s. They have also released some shots of Jinkx Monsoon’s villainous new character.

The adventures of the timelord (and friends) kick off again in November 2023, when new/old face David Tennant returns to the series as the Fourteenth Doctor in three specials to coincide with the 60th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’. That will be followed by Ncuti Gatwa taking over the role as the Fifteenth Doctor in Christmas 2023, followed by a full series in 2024.

As you can tell from the photos, one of those new episodes will see The Fifteenth Doctor and new companion “Ruby Sunday”, played by Millie Gibson (‘Coronation Street’), head to the swinging sixties. As to exactly what they will be doing there, we’ve no idea, but at least they’ll look fashionable whilst doing it!

In addition to the photos of the Doctor and Ruby, the BBC has also released some pics of Jinkx Monsoon’s yet-to-be-named character, who is described as “the Doctor’s most powerful enemy yet…” She can be seen in the pics with an interesting choice of a piano-based outfit. Does that hint at the villain having some musical connection? We’ll have to wait and see!

The award-winning actress, singer and two-time ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ winner, joins ‘Doctor Who’ after completing her sell-out run on Broadway, where she made her highly-anticipated debut as Matron “Mama” Morton in Broadway’s longest-running show, Chicago. Her run on Broadway was a historic moment for the LGBTQIA+ community, as she became the first drag queen to play the role of Mama Morton, breaking box office records in her extended 8-week run.

Other guest roles announce for the new season include Jemma Redgrave, who returns as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, and Aneurin Barnard (‘The White Queen’, ‘Cilla’, ‘Peaky Blinders’) as the mysterious Roger ap Gwilliam, alongside Anita Dobson (‘Eastenders’) and Michelle Greenidge (‘After Life’, ‘It’s A Sin’) who appear in undisclosed roles. Redgrave is also possibly set to return as Lethbridge-Stewart in a new spin-off series based around ‘UNIT’, although that has yet to be officially confirmed by the BBC.

Doctor Who‘ returns to screens in November 2023 with Tennant starring in three specials to coincide with the 60th-anniversary which will premiere exclusively on the BBC for the UK and Ireland. Disney+ will air the series internationally. Ncuti Gatwa then takes over in Christmas 2023 as the Fifteenth Doctor.

If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
