‘Not Dead Yet’ & ‘The Conners’ Renewed For New Seasons By ABC

US network ABC has renewed two of its comedies. Not Dead Yet lands a 2nd Season and The Conners gets a 6th Season. That just leaves two of their shows, The Rookie: Feds and Home Economics, stuck in limbo, with a renewal decision being made at a later date.

From creators David Windsor and Casey Johnson (‘This Is Us’, ‘The Real O’Neals’), ‘Not Dead Yet’ follows Nell Serrano, played by Gina Rodriguez (‘Jane The Virgin’), a broke and newly single self-described disaster, working to restart the life and career she left behind five years ago, after following her (now-ex)boyfriend to the UK. When she lands the only job she can find – writing obituaries – Nell starts getting life advice from an unlikely source… The ghosts of the people whose obituaries she is writing.

The series is adapted from the book “Confessions of a 40-something F**k Up” by Alexandra Potter. the series also stars Hannah Simone as Sam, Lauren Ash as Lexi, Rick Glassman as Edward, Joshua Banday as Dennis and Angela Gibbs as Cricket.

A follow-up series from ‘Roseanne’, ‘The Conners’ continue to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford. This iconic family – Dan, Jackie, Darlene and Becky – grapples with parenthood, dating, financial pressures and ageing in working-class America. Through it all – the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns – with love, humour and perseverance, the family prevails.

The series stars John Goodman as Dan Conner, Laurie Metcalf as Jackie Harris, Sara Gilbert as Darlene Conner, Lecy Goranson as Becky Conner-Healy, Emma Kenney as Harris Conner-Healy, Ames McNamara as Mark Conner-Healy and Jay R. Ferguson as Ben.

ABC has now renewed or cancelled all of its current crop of scripted series, leaving only The Rookie: Feds and Home Economics on the table, with their fates to be decided at a later date. Both shows have fairly modest, but respectable ratings. ‘The Rookie: Feds’, which is only on Season 1, has some potential to grow as it airs alongside its parent show. ‘Home Economics’ is on its 3rd Season, and may have hit its peak in terms of numbers. The contract options for the casts expire at the end of June, so ABC has until then to make a decision.

Not Dead Yet‘ airs on Disney+ in the UK, whilst ‘The Conners‘ airs on Sky Comedy.
