BBC Sets June UK Premiere Date For ‘Staged’ Season 3
Following its previous airing on Britbox/ITVX Premium last year, the BBC has set a June free-to-air UK premiere for Season 3 of Michael Sheen/David Tennant comedy ‘Staged‘ on BBC One and iPlayer.
The award-winning series, created by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn, stars Tennant and Sheen, alongside partners Georgia Tennant and Anna Lundberg, and sees the squabbling duo back together. After a fallout with Michael and David, the director Simon tries his very best to get them to work on a project with him again, however, this proves to be a difficult task. The comedy, which began as a “lockdown” project during the pandemic, began following David Tennant and Michael Sheen (playing fictional versions of themselves) as they were due to star in a production of Six Characters In Search Of An Author in the West End. The pandemic has put paid to that, but their director (co-creator Simon Evans – also playing himself) was determined not to let the opportunity pass him by. He knew how big a chance this was for him and turns his attention to cajoling his stars into rehearsing over the internet.
The second season saw the pair attempt to navigate their ‘new normal’ at home with their increasingly exasperated families whilst simultaneously trying to tackle the world of ‘virtual Hollywood’ and their ever more fragile egos. This season also featured Nina Sosanya as Jo, the financier of the play, and Primetime Emmy-winner Ben Schwartz, playing the assistant to Michael and David’s American agent.
‘Staged’ was named Best Comedy at New York Festivals TV & Film Awards in 2022 and was also named Best Comedy at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards in 2021. The third season previously aired on Britbox/ITVX Premium back in November 2022, but will now reach a wider audience when it lands back home on the BBC.
Created by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn, ‘Staged’ is written and directed by Simon Evans and is an Infinity Hill and GCB Films production for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Produced by Phin Glynn, Victor Glynn and Georgia Tennant, the executive producers are David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
