The Top 7 Movies of 2023 (So Far)

2023 has been quite a good year for movies, and it has even managed to pull huge numbers to actual theatres. This has been thanks to the great titles that have come out, from RomComs (yes, they are still alive) to, of course, “Barbenheimer.”

Today, we are going to look at 7 of the best movies of 2023. The article is based on our interview with entertainment and online casino expert Bernard Maumo from OnlineCasinoRank.com. The website ranks the best online casinos and lets users enjoy perks such as a casino referral bonus.

The Eight Mountains

The Eight Mountains is one of the most refreshing dramas out there. It is a film about two friends who grow up in the Italian Alps. The story follows their childhood in the 80s to the present day as they reconnect much later. Some of the themes it explores are friendship, family, nature, and identity. We also get to see the self-discovery of man after trying years of working on meaningless jobs.

The Eight Mountains is co-directed by Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch. It stars Luca Marinelli as Pietro and Alessandro Borghi as Bruno, both acclaimed Italian actors.

Rye Lane

Rye Lane is a British romantic comedy, and it is quite charming. The film follows two teenagers as they meet by chance after going through bad breakups. Yas (Vivian Oparah) is carefree, and Dom (David Jonsson) is level-headed. But on that day, they embark on a revelatory stroll through London. They explore Rye Lane Market, steal a record, run in on an ex, and fall in love, among other things. It is a modern love story, and it will make you laugh and cry according to Maumo.

Rye Lane is directed by Raine Allen-Miller, and it features cameo appearances by Colin Firth, Levi Roots, Blue Lab Beats, and Munya Chawawa.

Air

Air is Ben Affleck’s sixth directorial feature. And according to Maumo, it will inspire you, educate you, and entertain you. It is essentially a biographical sports drama film that takes you through the journey of how the coolest shoes, Air Jordans, came to be. The story follows Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon), a Nike marketing executive who is determined to sign Michael Jordan (unseen) to a shoe contract. He travels to North Carolina to meet Jordan and his family, but convincing them that Nike is the best company to partner with isn’t an easy task.

Air features an A-list lineup that includes Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Marlon Wayans, Chris Messina, Chris Tucker, and Viola Davis.

Barbie

Greta Gerwig’s 2023 feature is the most talked about movie of the year, and there’s every reason for that. The movie is the first live-action movie that features the famous doll, after several animated releases. But is not your typical adaptation of a toy franchise. It is a fantasy comedy that explores the strong themes of identity, self-discovery, patriarchy, and feminism. The story follows Barbie (Margot Robbie), who is the stereotypical blonde doll that lives in Barbieland, a matriarchal society where different versions of Barbies and Kens coexist. But she suffers a crisis that leads her into the real world (with Ken). It is a different world, and the experiences of both Barbie and Ken change everything.

The movie features an ensemble supporting cast, including Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Will Ferrell, and Simu Liu.

Oppenheimer

Oppenheimer was released on the same day as Barbie and has also gotten similar levels of attention. The follows J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), who was the lead scientist for the Manhattan Project. With his team, they get to develop the atomic bomb. Throughout the movie, we follow Oppenheimer his moral dilemmas and personal struggles, as well as the contentious aftermath.

Oppenheimer is directed by Christopher Nolan. Along with Cillian Murphy is also an A-list cast that includes Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh.

Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant

If you’d like a gripping war thriller, then this is it. The movie (based on a true story) follows the story of John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal), a U.S. Army special operations sergeant, and Ahmed (Dar Salim), his Afghan interpreter. The two have to survive against all odds after being ambushed by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

According to Maumo, whose website lets you enjoy perks such as a casino referral bonus, the movie graphically shows the harsh realities of war, but also a beautiful story of loyalty and the bond that forms between two men from different cultures and backgrounds. It features a strong supporting cast, including Antony Starr, Alexander Ludwig, Sean Sagar, and Bobby Schofield.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse lets us continue with the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga. The 2023 movie picks up where Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse left off. In the story, we get to follow Miles Morales as he travels through the multiverse. He teams up with Gwen Stacy and other Spider-People as they face a new threat.

The voice cast features the likes of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Jake Johnson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Karan Soni, Shea Whigham, Greta Lee, and Mahershala Ali.
