US network Starz has given a series order to Spartacus: House Of Ashur, a new chapter in the hugely popular ‘Spartacus’ franchise, from Steven S. DeKnight.

The new ten-episode series will see Nick Tarabay (‘Stargirl’) return as the villainous “Ashur,” the iconic role he originated in the series’ original run. Now… If you’re a fan of the original shows, I know what you’re thinking… “Wait? Isn’t that guy dead?” Well, yes, but he apparently got better!

‘Spartacus: House of Ashur’ will be a history-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit. The series poses the question: what if Ashur hadn’t died on Mount Vesuvius at the end of “Spartacus: Vengeance?” And what if he had been gifted the gladiator school once owned by Batiatus in return for aiding the Romans in killing Spartacus and putting an end to the slave rebellion?

“A decade ago the groundbreaking original ‘Spartacus’ captivated viewers worldwide and we’re excited to deliver more enthralling, high-octane drama that our fervent fans have been anticipating,” said Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming, STARZ. “It is an honour to team up with Steven again as he expands upon the storytelling within this thrilling, action-packed universe.”

The series comes from Steven S. DeKnight, who as creator, writer and executive producer of the original show, and then went on to produce the brilliant ‘Daredevil’ for Netflix. He returns to his franchise to serve as showrunner and executive producer on this new series.

“To be afforded the opportunity to return a decade later to a series you loved is such a rare, wonderful opportunity,” said DeKnight. “I could not be more excited to craft this next chapter in the Spartacus saga with STARZ, Lionsgate, and the incomparable Nick Tarabay.”

‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’ debuted on STARZ in 2010 and was followed by a prequel series chapter ‘Spartacus: Gods of the Arena’ in 2011 and two additional series ‘Spartacus: Vengeance’ in 2012 and ‘Spartacus: War of the Damned’ in 2013.

Lionsgate Television will produce the project for STARZ. Karen Bailey will oversee the series on behalf of STARZ. Jocelyn Sabo will oversee for Lionsgate Television.

At the moment it is unclear where ‘Spartacus: House Of Ashur’ will air in the UK. Previously, we would have assumed it would go to the Lionsgate+ streaming service, where you can currently stream the original seasons of ‘Spartacus’. However, last week we got the news that Lionsgate would be shutting down the streaming service in various international territories, including the UK, at some point in early 2024. Hopefully, the original shows on that service, most notably Outlander and the various Power series, will be sold to other broadcasters and streaming platforms, but we have no further information at this time.

If you want to keep track of ‘Spartacus: House Of Ashur‘ or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
