‘Welcome to Wrexham’ Renewed For Season 3 By FX

The brilliant docuseries Welcome to Wrexham will be back for Season 3  on FX in the USA and Disney+ in the UK, as the US network announces the show has been renewed, and could be landing earlier in the year than previously expected…

Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) navigate running the third-oldest professional football club in the world. ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ is a docuseries tracking the dreams and worries of Wrexham, a working-class town in North Wales, UK, as two Hollywood stars take ownership of the town’s historic yet struggling football club.

“The wild global success of Welcome to Wrexham is a testament to the courage and vision of Rob and Ryan, the dogged spirit of the Red Dragons, and the hope and devotion of the people of Wrexham,” commented Nick Grad, FX’s President of Entertainment. “It’s a story that has only begun to be told and one that everyone can continue to follow along with in the third season. Our thanks to the creative team who captured these thrilling moments and everyone who achieved what seemed impossible only a short time ago.”

In 2020, Rob and Ryan teamed up to purchase the “Red Dragons” in the hopes of turning the club into an underdog story the whole world could root for. The worry? Rob and Ryan have no experience in football or working with each other. From Hollywood to Wales, from the pitch to the locker room, the front office to the pub, Welcome to Wrexham tracks Rob and Ryan’s crash course in football club ownership and the inextricably connected fates of a team and a town counting on two actors to bring some serious hope and change to a community that could use it.

Founded in 1864, the “Red Dragons” are one of the oldest football teams in the world and compete in the National League, the fifth tier of the English football league system. Season one saw their fortunes massively improve, although, not quite enough to manage to claw their way out of the National League… Season two, which concludes this week, is another rollercoaster ride of emotions, as they battle, once again, for a spot in League Two.

The show’s previous two seasons aired in the Autumn/Fall season of the TV schedule. However, Season 3 is apparently being prepped for launch in Spring 2024. This interesting move could add some extra drama to the series, as it would be airing alongside the conclusion of the club’s current football season, as opposed to after we know where Wrexham FC finished in their league.

Welcome to Wrexham‘ Season 2 concludes this Wednesday (15th November) on Disney+ in the UK, and tonight (November 14th) on FX in the USA. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
