‘Station 19’ To End With Season 7

Firefighters put out their last fire in 2024

by Dave Elliott

The firefighters of Station 19 will put out their last fire in 2024, as ABC announces that the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ spin-off will end with its upcoming 7th Season.

‘Station 19’ follows a group of heroic Seattle firefighters as they put their lives and hearts on the line. In Seattle, all firefighters are also trained EMTs and the crew at Station 19 is second to none. Working in 24-hour shifts, these professionals spend so much time together that they build relationships unlike any other.

It was apparent earlier this year that this ending may be incoming after the firefighter drama was not renewed alongside its parent show as normal, but a month later, signalling there were some additional discussions internally about the renewal. It’s not entirely clear the reason for ending the show now, although, actors are usually signed up for seven seasons on network dramas, which means an eighth season would probably have meant cast negotiations, pushing up the price tag. It is ABC’s No.2 drama series behind ‘Grey’s’, so you would have thought they might want to keep it around. However, ABC now also has another high-rated firefighter drama in ‘9-1-1’ which they picked up from FOX earlier this year, so it’s possible they decided that is the better option moving forward. This final ten-episode season will have a proper ending for the drama. It will also push the series over the milestone of 100 total episodes.

The series is exec produced by Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers and Paris Barclay, and produced by Shondaland and ABC Signature. Krista Vernoff, who had been showrunner on both ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Station 19’ for the last few seasons announced she was stepping down from both roles at the end of season six. Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige take over as co-showrunners and exec producers on ‘Station 19’ for this final seventh season. Clack is currently head writer and EP on the drama, whilst Paige, who is best known as co-creator of ‘The Fosters‘ and ‘Good Trouble’, joined the series in 2020 as a director, getting upped to being an EP in season six.

“For seven seasons Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda and Betsy’s incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “With Zoanne and Peter at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.”

‘Station 19’ stars Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason George, Grey Damon, Barrett Doss, Alberto Frezza, Jay Hayden, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre, Miguel Sandoval, Boris Kodjoe, Stefania Spampinato, Carlos Miranda, Josh Randall, Merle Dandridge, and Pat Healy.

Station 19‘ Season 7 premieres Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 10pm on ABC in the USA, and will land at some point after that on Disney+ in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
