‘Magnum P.I.’ Season 5, Part 2: Sky Sets January UK Premiere Date For Final Episodes
‘Magnum P.I.‘ returns for part two of Season 5, as the private investigator wraps up his last cases in the final ten episodes of the drama this January on Sky Max in the UK.
The action-packed Hawaiian-based detective drama is a modern take on the classic series centring on Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez – ‘Scandal’, ‘Suicide Squad’), a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. A charming rogue, an American hero and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum lives in a guest cottage on Robin’s Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his P.I. business. Alongside Hernandez, the series stars Perdita Weeks as Juliet Higgins, Zachary Knighton as Orville “Rick” Wright, Stephen Hill as Theodore “T.C.” Calvin, Amy Hill as Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta, and Tim Kang as HPD Detective Gordon Katsumoto.
In the opening episode of Season 5, Episode 11, titled “Hit and Run”, Magnum and Higgins go to work for a dangerous and controversial client. Meanwhile, Rick flirts with a woman at the marina.
The series managed to escape death once last year, after CBS decided to cancel the drama, and NBC swooped in and saved it for their network, ordering a 20-episode 5th season, airing in two halves. However, when it came to a season six renewal, NBC was faced with a number of issues. Firstly, the cast contracts were up for renewal, meaning the show was likely to become more expensive to make. Secondly, the writer’s strike added to the uncertainty about when they would have been able to film again. Given the show’s ratings on the network had not been all that great, NBC opted to just pull the plug.
