Jon Stewart RETURNS To ‘The Daily Show’

Out with the old... In with the older...

by Dave Elliott

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, the legendary Jon Stewart is returning to The Daily Show‘, although he will only be hosting one night a week, and only through the current USA election cycle (which is basically until November 2024/Early 2025 for those of you in the UK reading this!)

It’s been 8 years since Jon left the late-night comedy series, and 25 years since he first sat in the hosting chair, but he will now return every Monday night to kick off the week. He also takes up an exec producer role across the show through 2024 and 2025 to “shape the next chapter of the franchise.”

It is, of course, a daily show, so hosting duties for the rest of the weekdays will be shared across the current crop of correspondents, which includes Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, Ronny Chieng, and Jordan Klepper.

The move has come about following Apple cancelling Stewart’s most recent series, ‘The Problem With Jon Stewart’, after some disagreements with the tech giant over his coverage of China and A.I. It also is a result of Trevor Noah, who recently picked up an Emmy for the show, leaving the hosting chair back in late 2022. Since then, Comedy Central has run the series with rotating guest hosts but were looking for a more permanent solution. Bringing Jon back in seems to be the answer, at least in the short term.

“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honoured to have him return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” said Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.  “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

The Daily Show‘ is set to return on Monday, 12th February 2024 on Comedy Central in the USA. It should then land a few dates after that in the UK on Comedy Central UK.
