As production gets underway on the Outlander prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Starz has revealed four of the key cast, and also that the show will not only follow Jamie’s parents, as previously announced, but also Claire’s parents.

‘Blood of My Blood’ will explore the lives and relationships of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie, who will be played by Harriet Slater, and Brian Fraser, played by Jamie Roy. It will also explore the origin story of Claire’s parents – Julia Moriston, played by Hermione Corfield, and Henry Beauchamp, played by Jeremy Irvine. The series will centre on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England.

Harriet Slater is probably best known for her role in the DC Comics series ‘Pennyworth’, and also popped up in ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’. Scottish actor Jamie Roy most recently appeared in the movie ‘Condor’s Nest’, and the 2021 film ‘Burning Lies’. Hermione Corfield starred in the TV series ‘We Hunt Together’ and ‘The Halcyon’, along with popping up in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’. Jeremy Irvine made his debut in the film ‘War Horse’, and since then has appeared in numerous films and TV shows such as ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’, and the series ‘Treadstone’.

“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples,” says Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner, executive producer and writer on both series. “The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.”

The new 10-episode series is being filmed in Scotland, just like its parent show. The main ‘Outlander’ series will celebrate its 10th anniversary this summer and will be airing the back eight episodes of its seventh season later this year on Starz in the USA. It has been confirmed for a 10-episode eighth season, which will begin production shortly in Scotland.

The issue we have at the moment for ‘Outlander’ in the UK is where the show will air… It originally aired on Prime Video, before getting moved onto the Lionsgate+ streaming service. Unfortunately, Lionsgate+ is closing up shop in the UK from the end of February, meaning ‘Outlander’ is without a home. We’re hoping Prime Video steps back in to pick up the series again, but as of right now, nothing has been announced, so it is without a UK broadcaster.

Matthew B. Roberts and Ronald D. Moore will executive produce ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’, along with Maril Davis. Moore and Davis developed ‘Outlander’ for television, under their production banner Tall Ship Productions. Story Mining & Supply Company will also executive produce, and author Diana Gabaldon will serve as a consulting producer. ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

The ‘Outlander’ television series is inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books, which have sold an estimated 50 million copies worldwide, with all nine of the books gracing the New York Times best-seller list. The “Outlander” television series has become a worldwide success with audiences, spanning the genres of history, science fiction, romance and adventure in one amazing tale.

Outlander‘ and ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood‘ are both currently without UK broadcasters, but we’ll let you know if that changes. They both air on Starz in the USA. If you want to keep track of these shows you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
