Following a little break last week due to MCM Comic-Con, we are back with a bumper, jam-packed episode 425 of the Geektown Radio podcast, and Dave is joined by film critic, multi-award-winning director, and podcaster, Matthew Stogdon, to chat TV, film, and video game news & reviews!
Matthew has been a film critic since 2004, writing for various sites and magazines, along with his own site, TheRedRightHand.co.uk. He’s also been a multi-award-winning filmmaker since 2009 via his company, Cheesemint Productions, and a podcaster since 2017 with his show, Sequelisers. He describes himself as “a big old nerd who has a strong love for pop culture but an unmatchable passion for film.”
Despite his very busy schedule, Matthew has not only managed to fit in some time for our show, but also review some film, TV and games for us! He gives his thoughts on the movies ‘Furiosa’, ‘The Garfield Movie’, and ‘Dune: Part 2’, along with TV shows ‘Bodkin‘ (Netflix), anime ‘Brave Bang Bravern’ (Crunchyroll), and Apple TV’s ‘Masters Of The Air’. On the gaming side he reviews ‘Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater’, ‘Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth’, and ‘Tekken 8’, but also has… thoughts… on the pricing for ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’… Meanwhile, Dave has been catching up on ‘The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live’, which has finally been released in the UK by Sky, and the latest episodes of ‘Doctor Who’. He also has been searching Steam’s wallet-draining “Open World Survival Crafting Sale”, picking up ‘Survival: Fountain Of Youth‘, ‘Robin Hood: Sherwood Builders’, ‘Nightingale‘, and ‘Enshrouded’, along with playing through ‘Galacticare’, and ‘Star Trek: Resurgence’.
Moving on to the news updates, we have all the latest cancellations and renewals, which has bad news for Melissa Benoist and Jared Padalecki, but good news for fans of ‘Hacks’. We also discuss Holly Hunter joining Starfleet, casting for the new ‘Dexter’ prequel, Nicholas Galitzine hitting the gym for a ‘Masters of the Universe’ film, and Guy Ritchie heading back to ‘Sherlock Holmes’ (albeit a younger version!) We did say it was a packed show! Listen below!
