As filming for the epic new historical drama ‘King & Conqueror‘ wraps in Iceland, the BBC and CBS Studios have announced even more cast who have joined the already impressive lineup.
‘King & Conqueror’ is the story of a clash that defined the future of a country – and a continent – for a thousand years, the roots of which stretch back decades and extend out through a pair of interconnected family dynasties, struggling for power across two countries and a raging sea. Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy were two men destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; two allies with no design on the British throne, who found themselves forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of its crown.
As previously announced, the series will star James Norton as Harold, Earl of Wessex and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William, Duke of Normandy, alongside Emily Beecham as Edith Swan-neck, Clémence Poésy as Matilda, Eddie Marsan as King Edward, Juliet Stevenson as Lady Emma, Jean-Marc Barr as King Henry, Luther Ford as Tostig, Geoff Bell as Godwin, Elliott Cowan as Sweyn, Bo Bragason as Queen Gunhild, Bjarne Henriksen as Earl Siward, Olivier Masucci as Baldwin and Clare Holman as Gytha.
Further cast announced today includes Elander Moore (Kaos, Interview with a Vampire) as Morcar, Indy Lewis (Industry, La Fortuna) as Margaret, Jason Forbes (My Lady Jane, A Gentleman in Moscow) as Thane Thomas, Ingvar Sigurdsson (The Northman, Godland) as Fitzosbern, Ines Asserson (Royalteen, Skam) as Judith, and Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson (Heartstone, Summerlight… and Then Comes the Night) as Hardrada.
Written by Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes, The Frankenstein Chronicles) and with the opening episode directed by Baltasar Kormákur (Trapped, Everest, Adrift), ‘King & Conqueror’ will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The series is produced by The Development Partnership, Rabbit Track Pictures, Shepherd Content, RVK Studios and CBS Studios in association with the BBC.
The 8 episode series is created and executive produced by Michael Robert Johnson and executive produced by James Norton and Kitty Kaletsky for Rabbit Track Pictures (Rogue Agent), Baltasar Kormákur for RVK Studios, Robert Taylor for The Development Partnership (Rogue Agent, Close to Me), Dave Clarke and Richard Halliwell for Shepherd Content, Ed Clarke (The Electrical Life of Louis Wain), Robert Jones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Baltasar Kormákur and CBS Studios’ Lindsey Martin. Baltasar Kormákur will direct the premiere episode and, as executive producer, will steer the creative across the series.
The BBC has acquired broadcasting rights for the series in the United Kingdom and it will be distributed outside of the UK by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
