‘Suits LA‘ will have at least one familiar face from the original series as Gabriel Macht has taken a guest arc reprising his role as Harvey Specter in the new spin-off series (and before you ask, no, we don’t yet have a UK broadcaster…)
‘Suits LA’ follows Ted Black (Stephen Amell – Arrow, Heels), a former federal prosecutor from New York, who has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point and to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives.
Macht posted a little video to his social media account, which showed him donning a H.S. monogrammed shirt, with the caption “When an old friend is in need…it’s time to take care of things and make those very ‘things’ right.” Reports suggest this will be a three-episode guest arc on the new drama, not him joining the series full-time.
When we last saw Harvey, he’d moved to Seattle, alongside his wife Donna (Sarah Rafferty), to join Mike Ross’ (Patrick J. Adams) legal clinic. However, it makes sense that Harvey and Ted would have crossed paths previously, both being former prosecutors in New York, and would step up if Ted called him for help.
As for Macht himself, this is actually his first time back on screen (barring a T-Mobile commercial alongside Patrick J. Adams) since ‘Suits’ ended. After 9 Seasons of the drama, he decided to take a break from acting and moved to the UK with his family for some well-deserved respite.
Amell is joined by Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead) as Stuart Lane, an old buddy of Black’s, who, fifteen years ago, joined forces with the former New York prosecutor to build an L.A. law firm that specializes in criminal and entertainment law. Lane is energetic, powerful, focused… and self-absorbed; Lex Scott Davis (The First Purge, Rebel) plays Erica Rollins, a savvy and strong-willed rising star who works for Ted Black. She’s shrewd enough to test the loyalty of her associates only to admire some of them for not having any; And Bryan Greenberg (One Tree Hill, The Mindy Project) who plays Rick Dodsen, Ted Black’s protege in the entertainment division of Black Lane Law. Slated to be promoted, Rick is determined to stay one step ahead of his rival, Erica Rollins.
‘Suits’ creator Aaron Korsh writes and executive produces the new series. David Bartis, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, Anton Cropper, Genevieve Sparling, Rick Muirragui and Jon Cowan also exec produce. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
