ITV has set a January UK premiere date for ‘Grantchester‘ Season 9, as Robson Green’s DI Geordie Keating says goodbye to Tom Brittney‘s Reverend Will Davenport and hello to a new ecclesiastical crime-solving partner.
It’s 1961 and times are very much changing in Grantchester. The Reverend Will Davenport has begun to consider new challenges elsewhere, while Geordie and Cathy Keating deal with an independent Esme out in a dangerous world. It’s not long before Alphy Kottaram (Rishi Nair) makes his arrival as the new vicar, enchanted by the village and remarkably gallant about his rocky welcome. Will the locals ever be able to accept him as one of their own?
Grantchester Season 9 finds police and vicar(s) investigating clandestine circus performers and deceitful archaeologists, while exploring gender politics in the workplace, and the meaning of faith in the community. As mysterious clues build to a truly explosive finale, this season is set to be the biggest and boldest yet.
The full gang returns to Grantchester for this latest season, including Tom Brittney (Greyhound, Outlander) as outgoing vicar Will Davenport, with Charlotte Ritchie (Call the Midwife) as Bonnie Davenport. Robson Green (Reckless) is sarcastic and world-weary DI Geordie Keating, Kacey Ainsworth (EastEnders) is Cathy Keating, and Skye Degruttola is their daughter, Esme. Al Weaver (Colette, Miss Scarlet and The Duke) is former curate Leonard Finch, Oliver Dimsdale (Downton Abbey) is Leonard’s partner Daniel, Tessa Peake-Jones (Pride and Prejudice) plays feisty Mrs. Chapman, and Nick Brimble is her husband, Jack. Bradley Hall returns as DC Larry Peters and Melissa Johns is Miss Scott.
Joining the cast is Rishi Nair (The Marlow Murder Club, Count Abdulla, Hollyoaks) as Rev. Alphy Kottaram. “Rishi has likeability in spades,” says Robson Green. “The way [Geordie and Alphy] interact is incredibly endearing and you know you’re going to care about them enough to follow them.”
The series is a co-production between Kudos (a Banijay UK Company) and Masterpiece, for ITV in the UK and PBS in the USA. It was renewed back in June for a 10th Season.
‘Grantchester‘ Season 9 premieres Wednesday 8th January 2025 at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK.
