DC Studio’s boss James Gunn has released the first photo of Kyle Chandler & Aaron Pierre in the upcoming Lanterns which sees the duo take on the roles of Green Lantern’s Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Based on DC’s Green Lantern comic books, the series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Kyle Chandler (‘Friday Night Lights’, ‘Bloodlines’) stars as Hal Jordan with Aaron Pierre (‘Krypton’, ‘Rebel Ridge’) as John Stewart. They are joined by Kelly Macdonald (‘Line of Duty’, ‘Boardwalk Empire’) in the series regular role of Sheriff Kerry, a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface.

Other cast includes Garret Dillahunt (‘High Potential’, ‘Fear the Walking Dead’, ‘The Mindy Project’) as William Macon, a modern cowboy who hides his self-righteous, conspiracy-minded personality behind a charming façade;  Poorna Jagannathan (‘The Night Of’, ‘Never Have I Ever’) as Zoe, a woman who is effortlessly confident, composed and cunning as the influential men around her; And Ulrich Thomsen (‘Banshee’, ‘The Blacklist’, ‘Counterpart’) as Sinestro, a rogue former member of the Green Lantern Corps who is ruthless yet undeniably charming.

The series is co-written by Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers) and excellent comicbook writer Tom King. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes (Doctor Who, Slow Horses, Black Mirror). The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King and Hawes. Based on the DC comic “Green Lantern.”

We don’t officially yet know where ‘Lanterns’ will air in the UK. Whilst it’s a HBO series in the USA, it seems likely that it will premiere on WBD’s MAX streaming service when that launches in the UK in early 2026, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.

If you want to keep track of ‘Lanterns‘ or any other show, add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
